Essential Job Functions: 1. Audits handling of cases to ensure accurate and timely completion, and initiates actions or makes recommendations to remediate.
2. Serves as a link between management, employees, and Human Resources by handling questions and helping resolve work-related problems.
3. Advises managers on organizational policy matters such as equal employment opportunity and sexual harassment, and recommends needed changes.
4. Assists management with performing difficult staffing duties, including dealing with understaffing, refereeing disputes, managing performance, terminating employees, and administering disciplinary procedures.
5. Addresses employee relations issues, such as harassment allegations, work complaints, or other employee concerns.
6. Conducts investigations into employee relations issues and submits findings and recommendations to management.
7. Assists in preparing responses to EEOC and other legal charges.
8. Represents organization at personnel-related hearings and investigations.
9. Advises management on organizing, preparing, or implementing recruiting or retention programs.
10. Uses change management and coaching expertise to advise managers regarding creation and implementation of strategies for organizational changes.
11. Analyzes statistical data and reports to identify and determine causes of personnel problems and develop recommendations for improvement of organization's personnel policies and practices.
12. Studies legislation and regulations to assess industry trends and impacts.
13. Interprets and explains human resources policies, procedures, laws, standards, or regulations.
14. Maintains current knowledge of Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) and affirmative action guidelines and laws, such as the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
15. Prepares or maintains employment records related to events, such as hiring, termination, leaves, transfers, or promotions, using human resources management system software.
16. Provides management with information or training related to interviewing, performance appraisals, counseling techniques, or documentation of performance issues.
17. May plan, direct, supervise, and coordinate work activities of subordinates and staff, including hiring, coaching, evaluating, and terminating, all in accordance with University policies and procedures.
18. Serves as trainer and mentor for junior employees.
19. Reviews the work of and provides direction to ER Specialists as required.
20. Maintains employee data integrity and confidentiality.
21. Completes special projects as assigned.
22. Performs other duties as assigned or required.

1. Administration and Management - Thorough knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, budgeting, human resources modeling, leadership technique, and/or coordination of people and resources.
2. Personnel and Human Resources - Thorough knowledge of principles and procedures for personnel recruitment, selection, training, compensation and benefits, and personnel information systems.
3. English Language - Thorough knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
4. Customer and Personal Service - Thorough knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of user satisfaction.

Physical Requirements:
1. Speech Recognition - Must be able to identify and understand the speech of another person.

4. May be required to work nights or weekends.

Major (if required):  
Required Experience: Eight (8) years of professional experience in human resources with functional expertise in employee relations.
Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in higher education.

Accredited certified professional, preferred.
