Essential Job Functions: 1. Conducts research in computational biology, bioinformatics and bioinformatics theory and method, and applies them to both basic scientific discovery and advancement of applied sciences to achieve the Clinical Systems Biology Group and Institute for Neuro-Immune Medicine's overall goals.

2. Generates and reports data and results and leads or assists in preparation and publishing of data in scientific journals.

3. Supports the development of advanced computational methods and tools, and performs research related to computational biology, biostatistics and bioinformatics.

4. Collaborates with other scientists in determining the order of research processes that best support essential project goals.

5. Assists with maintaining daily operation of biostatistics and/or bioinformatics infrastructure, monitors and maintains operation of biostatistics and/or bioinformatics web servers and databases

6. Coordinates and implements other research support activities associated with assigned projects to support the goals of research.

7. Communicates research discoveries through presentations within the Institute and at regional, national and/or international scientific meetings and through publications in scientific, peer reviewed journals.

8. Operates and properly maintains laboratory equipment.

9. Identifies issues in research protocol and implements modifications in research methodologies.

10. Consults scientific literature as needed.

11. Generates, identifies, collects, manages and retains research generated data.

12. Ensures that sufficient records are kept and good record keeping practices are followed to document experimental methods, accuracy of data collected and methods and accuracy of data interpretation.

13. Adopts and uses the Institute-provided, electronic research data management system to ensure an orderly, dated and secure data repository.

14. Participates in small groups, laboratories, etc as requested.

15. Participates in department and college wide committee meetings.

16. Maintains a personal professional development plan which may include research or other creative activities to assure growth and current within the field of Family Medicine.

17. Displays professional behavior and ethics in all aspects of job performance.

18. Performs other appropriate duties as assigned or required.
Marginal Job Functions: Responsible for routinely checking email correspondence and associated attachments
Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: 1. Expertise in biostatistical analysis.

2. Knowledge of algorithm development, computer programming, software engineering and biological research.

3. Skilled in technical proficiency, scientific creativity, collaboration with others and independent thought

4. Ability to develop applications to assist with biological data analysis and interpretation.

5. Ability to connect and apply scientific knowledge in research

6. Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations

7. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.

8. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of
managers, clients, customers, and the general public

9. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.

10. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations

11. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists

12. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
Job Requirements:  
Required Certifications/Licensures: 1. Terminal degree (DO,MD degree or Resident) or board eligibility in appropriate area of specialization or Ph.D., if teaching only.
Required Education: Terminal Degree (Highest degree in field of study)
Major (if required):  
Required Experience: 1. Ph.D. in quantitative sciences, engineering, bio-statistics, bioinformatics, computational biology, computer science, information systems, genomics, genetics, molecular biology or other related field.

2. 0-2 years research experience in application of computational techniques in biological research.
