Job Title: Head Lifeguard - TEMPORARY

Essential Job Functions: 1. Effectively communicates with staff lifeguards and monitors their actions.

2. Assist with the delegation of maintenance and clean up duties.

3. Assist professional aquatic staff with the planning and setting up of all events and training sessions.

4. Responsible for making sure all opening and closing procedures are performed for assigned shift.

5. Acts as the primary contact for all facility and programming inquires in the absence of a professional aquatic staff personal.

6. Writes and submits shift reports in a timely manner.

7. Conducts simple water test to determine water quality.

8. Attend all head lifeguard meetings, in-service training sessions, and staff meetings.

9. Reports any incidents, rescues, problems or equipment in need of repair.

10. Performs other duties as needed.
Marginal Job Functions: 1. All Head Lifeguards will uphold the same work standards and skills as those of a staff lifeguard in addition to the aforementioned responsibilities/duties.

2. May be asked to teach American Red Cross certification courses: Lifeguarding, First Aid/CPR/AED, CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers, Bloodborne Pathogens, Administering Oxygen, and any additional American Red Cross courses

3. Lead and/or Assist in-service trainings for the lifeguard staff

4. Must attend at least one leadership/professional development training per year
Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: 1. Assertive and leadership oriented personality.

2. Must be able to make independent decisions when necessary.

3. Ability to recognize potentially harmful situations and take appropriate actions.

4. Exceptional knowledge of rescue skills and ability to perform them.

5. Ability to maintain focus for multiple hours.

6. Must be comfortable and proficient in teaching and/or training lifeguard personnel, and external clients

7. Ability to teach or co-teach at least 1 American Red Cross Course per Semester (Fall and Winter) when LGI certified.
Job Requirements: Job Requirements:

1. Complete and successfully pass a mandatory skills test.

2. Must be able to see, sit, stoop, kneel, stand, communicate, reach and manipulate objects.

3. Lifeguards must be proficient swimmers and be able to perform proper rescue and first aid techniques.

4. Available to work a minimum of 12 hours a week.

5. Available to work opening shift and closing shift and able to work weekend shifts and/or holidays.

6. Must be able to work summer and/or winter breaks
Required Certifications/Licensures: 1. Active American Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED certification.

2. Active American Red Cross Administering Emergency Oxygen.

3. American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Trainer (Obtain within 6 months of being hired).
Required Education: High School Diploma, GED or high school student at least 16 years of age

Required Experience: 1. A current staff member who is in good standing and has been employed for a minimum of 1 semester.
