Job Title: Medical Science Lab Assistant - 999169

Subject to Grant Funding?: No  
Essential Job Functions: 1. Inspects daily cadaveric specimens in the Human Anatomy teaching labs to control for mold, excessive drying and other detrimental environmental conditions.

2. Maintains anatomy and histology labs and storage areas in a clean, organized and safe condition.

3. Performs general maintenance of gross dissection laboratory, skeletons and anatomical models.

4. Signs out learning materials (skeletons, brain slices, bone boxes, etc.) to students and maintains accurate records of borrowed materials.

5. Assist in the histology labs by maintaining slide inventory, overseeing security of microscopes.

6. Observes safety precautions and wears appropriate personal protective equipment as required. Follows procedures for proper handling, labeling, storage and use of cadavers.

7. Assists in receiving and documenting of specimen inventory and the cremation of specimens following their dissection.

8. Assists with the setting up of exams.

9. Proctors college related make-up exams.

10. Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Marginal Job Functions:  
Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: 1. Knowledge of office practices and procedures (e.g., filing, answering telephones, and supply/equipment ordering).

2. Maintains a positive, professional relationship with course directors and anatomy teaching faculty.

3. Ability to work cooperatively with colleagues and supervisory staff at all levels.

4. Ability to enter and verify information with accuracy; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

5. Ability to maintain confidential information.

6. Proactive, punctual and reliable.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORKING CONDITIONS:

1. May be exposed to short, intermittent, and/or prolonged periods of sitting and/or standing in performance of job duties.

2. May be required to accomplish job duties using various types of equipment/supplies, to include but not limited to pens, pencils and computer keyboards.

3. May occasionally be required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

4. Must be able to life and move up to 50 pounds.

5. Exposed to certain chemical related substances to care and maintain used in cadavers and lab equipment.

2. Previous experience working with cadavers.

3. Previous experience working in a mortuary or funeral home.
