Essential Job Functions: 1. Supervises contract preparators and coordinates audio visual technicians to include preparation of gallery walls and fabrication of cases and pedestals to ensure proper installation and de-installation of exhibitions.

2. Oversee careful and proper handling, hanging and moving of art objects and crates and deliver to appropriate storage and/or galleries, including unpacking, unloading, repacking, and reloading works of art, and matting and framing and/or unframing art works as needed.

3. Maintains lighting and proper appearance including but not limited to paint touch-ups and cleaning of glass of all exhibitions to ensure necessary repairs and adjustments are made.

4. Respond to Curatorial staff's gallery report or walk through to ensure proper condition monitoring and maintenance of all art work.

5. Monitors and maintains the condition of materials and art storage areas and reports defects or deteriorations on all exhibit areas to ensure proper upkeep.

6. Supervises wood shop usage and maintains inventory of woodshop and AV room equipment. Maintain and operate various small power and hand tools.

7. Oversees and performs basic painting and coating techniques used in the maintenance of buildings and furnishings.

8. Assists with the physical handling and documentation in moving all works of art, keeping track of location of works of art and notifying Senior Registrar and Exhibitions & Curatorial Projects Manager as to physical location of works of art.

9. Provides support and assistance to the Maintenance/Building operations Supervisor for all safety and OSHA- related regulations.

10. Supports museum staff as needed to fulfill the changing needs of exhibitions.

11. Meets all exhibition deadlines.
Marginal Job Functions: 1. Assists in monitoring budgets to ensure exhibition installations and de-installations remain within budget.

2. Assists in submitting purchase orders with approved vendors and processing Ariba requests.

3. Travels with loans and exhibitions as courier to oversee transportation, installation, and de-installations of Museum organized exhibitions at other venues.
Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: 1. Extraordinarily sensitive to the correct handling and maintenance of Art work.

2. Ability to work effectively, individually or in a team as well as with diverse groups.

3. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, and be able to follow oral and written instructions.

4. Ability to express ideas effectively and concisely.

5. Ability to work effectively in a service oriented environment and with frequently changing priorities.

6. Ability to follow through and carry out assignments.

7. Problem solving skills and sound judgment.

8. Knowledge of proper and safe use of tools, cleaning chemicals, paints, etc.

9. Knowledge of procedures and safety measures in area(s) of specialty.

10. Organized and self motivated.

11. Flexible hours and adaptable to exhibition deadlines.

12. Ability to multi-task.


1. Must be able to lift, carry, push or pull a variety of tools, equipment and materials.

2. Must be able to climb, balance, stoop, kneel and crouch to gain access to equipment.

3. Handles a variety of hand and power tools.

4. Occasional exposure to wet and/or hot conditions.

5. Exposed to noise and vibration from operating machinery.

6. Must be able to lift any trade tools, material and equipment.

7. Must be able to safely lift 50 lbs.

8. Must be able to reach overhead.

9. May be required to work in confined areas to access equipment.
Job Requirements:  
Required Certifications/Licensures:  
Required Education: Associate's Degree or 60 College credits
Major (if required):  
Required Experience: 1. Five (5) year's experience in art handling, construction and shop supervision.

2. Experience handling art of many media within pre-established art conservation guidelines.

3. Experience with hanging, installation and placement of varying artwork such as paintings, sculptures, and multimedia and installation art.
Preferred Qualifications: Previous experience with design programs including Sketch Up and Adobe Photoshop. Knowledge of video editing and formatting as well as AV equipment and installation.
