Job Title: Temporary Career Counseling Advisor II

Essential Job Functions: 1. Provides strategic support for career counseling at the College of Osteopathic Medicine. This includes career advising, program development and working with the Careers in Medicine software. Works collaboratively with other departments in the COM to coordinate career counseling and guidance services for students.
2. Serves as an advisor to students regarding M4 electives to include impact on choice, resolving issues as they pertain to schedules, graduation requirements and Visiting Student Application Service.
3. Develops, lectures, and distributes materials regarding interview strategies and trends.
4. Participates in the composition and review of the Medical Student Performance Evaluation (MSPE).
5. Works with students and alumni to establish a plan of action to prepare for a successful career.
6. Assists in the development and facilitates workshops and sessions on career development topics and soft-skill development.
7. Evaluates students' abilities, interests, and personality characteristics through the use of assessment tools.
8. Instructs individuals in career development techniques, such as job search and application strategies, resume writing, and interview skills.
9. Conducts ongoing advisement sessions to ensure students' career development needs have been met.
10. Maintains accurate and complete student records as required by laws, policies, and administrative regulations.
11. Represents institution and/or assigned program(s) at community and campus events, in meetings with other institution personnel, and during accreditation processes.
12. Promotes the university by participating in community, state, and national events or meetings, and by developing partnerships with industry and/or professional associations.
13. Oversees the daily performance of assigned career development portal(s).
14. Generates reports to audit data quality, ensure accuracy and system integrity, and increase productivity.
15. Adds new material to file records or creates new records as necessary.
16. Maintains data integrity and confidentiality.
17. Participates in the compilation and study of occupational, educational, and economic information to assist students and career development team in determining and carrying out career and educational objectives.
18. Ensures compliance with university policies and procedures; county, state, federal, and international regulations; professional association guidelines; and accreditation requirements.
19. Completes special projects as assigned.
20. Performs other duties as assigned or required.

2. Therapy and Counseling - Working knowledge of principles, methods, and procedures for diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of physical and mental dysfunctions, and for career counseling and guidance.
3. English Language - General knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
4. Education and Training - Working knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects.
5. Customer and Personal Service - General knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of user satisfaction.

Physical Requirements:
1. Speech Recognition - Must be able to identify and understand the speech of another person.

3. Near Vision - Must be able to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
4. May be required to work nights or weekends.
5. Travel - Must be able to travel on a daily and/or overnight basis.
6. May be exposed to short, intermittent, and/or prolonged periods of sitting and/or standing in performance of job duties.
7. May be required to accomplish job duties using various types of equipment/supplies, to include but not limited to pens, pencils, and computer keyboards.

Required Experience: Minimum two (2) years counseling/advising experience.
Preferred Qualifications: Masters Degree in Counseling, Student Affairs or related fields.
