Essential Job Functions: 1. Provides academic advising to prospective, new and returning students, individually or in groups, about University policies, programs of study, degree options and online resources tools.

2. Proactively seeks out advisees assigned making certain to meet in person with advisee a minimum of once per semester during the student's freshmen and sophomore year and once per year during the student's junior and senior year. If in person appointment is impossible due to distance then video (Skype) appointment should serve as a substitute. If video technology is unavailable then phone appointment should serve as a substitute.

3. Proactively seeks to engage with advisees outside of Academic Advising Office.

4. Provides students with information about alternatives and possible consequences of academic decisions.

5. Follows and explains University and College policies and procedures.

6. Establishes and maintains relationships with assigned Department Chair/Program Directors to understand and clarify departmental expectations. Maintains current knowledge of all the degree and certificate programs.

7. Works closely with admissions and financial aid staff to advise students (e.g. pre-registration, registration, transcript evaluation and/or develop study plans).

8. Works closely with the Academic Office and Student Services to connect students to academic support (e.g. Tutoring and testing and The Office of Undergraduate Student Success).

9. Informs/Directs students about University resources such as financial aid, scholarship/grant sources, Academic Services, Career Development Office, Wellness Center and/or Psychological Services.

10. Completes other advising duties as requested such as tracking retention, authorizing add/drops, and conducting degree audits. Keeps advising statistics, work schedule and other reporting documents up-to-date.

11. Supports the Office of Career Development by ensuring the timely referral of advisees to the Career Development Office. Ensures that advisee does in fact connect in with Career Development Office.

12. Works closely with the Office of Enrollment and Student Services regarding advisees that risk or have failed Satisfactory Academic Progress as defined by the U.S. Department of Education. Works with advisee to create and monitor plans which will allow student to meet federal requirements to continuing receiving financial aid.

13. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education: Bachelor's Degree
Major (if required):  
Required Experience: 1. One (1) year experience working with young adults or college students in a counseling capacity.

2. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications: 1. Bachelor's Degree in Counseling, Communications, Psychology, or related field.

2. Minimum (1) year of advising/counseling experience in higher education.
