Essential Job Functions: 1. The Director is responsible for teaching and leading the academic courses for students enrolled in Externship Programs.
2. Approves and monitors externship placements, including conducting site visits, training supervisors and identifying and addressing issues that arise during an externship.
3. Counsels students considering enrollment in an externship.
4. Creates and supervises new externship programs and clinics for specific practice areas.
5. Creates, supervises, and develops curricula for full-time externships and externships outside of the area (including students externing internationally through this program).
6. Serves as a contact person for students and the public at-large for the externship programs.
7. Collaborates with and supervises other faculty and administrators on the development and promotion of the law school's clinical legal education curriculum.
8. Assesses the success of the externship program and works with the dean's office and office of career services to coordinate NSU’s professional identity formation curriculum.
9. Participates in national academic discourse regarding externship programs through conferences, on-line discussions, and, as time permits.
10. Prepares memoranda, collects and analyzes data and other material, and maintains records about specific externship sites, student performance, and the externship programs in general.
11. Ensures that all the school of law externship programs comply with pertinent ABA standards and AALS bylaws.
12. Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Required Education: Juris-Doctor (J.D.) degree, LLM, or similar degree.
Major (if required):  
Required Experience: Post J.D. legal experience, including significant experience as a trial lawyer, criminal or civil.
Preferred Qualifications: 1. Juris-Doctor (J.D.) degree.
2. Experience working with law students or recent law school graduates as a supervisor, mentor, teacher, or instructor.
3. Membership in a state bar association.
