Essential Job Functions: |
1. The first priority of all members of the College of Law is to serve our clients--the applicants, students, and alumni. Therefore, Professors of Practice will not be limited by this job description but will perform whatever tasks are assigned by supervisor(s). Professors of Practice will be readily available, responsive, and accessible to students and other constituents of the College of Law. Primary responsibilities will be teaching and providing academic support to the students and alumni studying for the bar exam.
2. Through teaching courses and workshops which focus on academic development and bar preparation, enhances students’ ability to outperform their statistical predictors on high stakes examinations such as the bar exam.
3. Provides regular, meaningful feedback to students on the core skills, competencies, and learning outcomes required for students and alumni.
4. Trains and supervises graders when needed.
5. Maintains and updates online learning support center websites on an ongoing basis. Coordinates and establishes teaching support platforms online.
6. Meets regularly with the Assistant Dean and coordinates Library, faculty, and administration assistance for skills workshops. Identifies and collaborates with faculty interested in assessing, improving and critiquing student skills development.
7. Regularly assists with designing and implementing the various programming and instructional segments to prepare students for success in Law school, the bar exam, and practice.
8. Coordinates with Student Affairs to monitor and assist students with academic difficulties.
9. Meets with students who require personal counseling and advice about how to utilize the program and succeed in Law school and on the bar exam.
10. Coordinates and creates structures for the integration of Law school and community-wide resources to facilitate the delivery and development of the bar exam preparation across the curriculum.
11. Conducts, promotes, and coordinates assigned skills workshops.
12. Conducts research in appropriate, related areas, including analysis of data relating to bar passage and academic performance among students.
13. Ensures compliance with University policies and procedures; county, state, and federal regulations; and accreditation requirements.
14. At certain times during the academic year, this position demands some work on evenings and weekends. Evening hours will be expected to accommodate workshops offered in the evening hours.
15. Other duties as assigned by the Assistant Dean of Academic Success and Professionalism or other supervisors.

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: |
1. Adequate knowledge of and familiarity with the content and academic requirements of Law school curriculum and law related skills, to respond to the academic needs of first-year law students.
2. Demonstrated professionalism and professional excellence, including broad experience in the practice of law and the various skills necessary for students going on to practice in various fields, including legal writing, oral advocacy, research, and legal analysis.
3. Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to maintain meaningful and positive relationships with students, faculty, and staff.
4. Excellent teaching and learning skills to facilitate the student learning outcome goals of each course or workshop and the tutoring/coaching provided.
5. A history evidencing high self-motivation, a capacity and willingness to work hard, and strong leadership skills.
6. Advanced proficiency in Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, legal research databases and resources, learning management platforms, and other technology tools utilized by legal professionals.

Required Experience: |
1. J.D. from an ABA-accredited Law school and four (4) years of experience in the practice of Law, or equivalent experience, is required.
2. Candidate must have passed a bar exam in a U.S. jurisdiction.

Preferred Qualifications: |
1. Florida Bar membership.
2. Experience in the areas of expository writing, oral argument, and training of attorneys.
3. Previous successful work experience in an academic environment.
4. Bilingual. |
