Essential Job Functions: 1. Maintains proper operation and safe use of painting tools and equipment to ensure quality maintenance of NSU property.

2. Applies correct type of paints and coatings to ensure perfect match with existing surfaces.

3. Conducts proper preparation of surfaces to be painted to ensure quality workmanship.

4. Patches walls, caulking of dissimilar joints and areas of window, doors, trim, etc. to ensure consistency with surrounding areas is maintained.

5. Interfaces with customers, orders materials and schedules work orders to ensure customer needs are met.

6. Performs other duties as assigned.

SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS:

1. Available on call 24/7 for University emergencies.

2. Be able to work a flexible shift schedule, (day and/or evening); anytime between the hours of 8:00AM - 12:00PM.

Marginal Job Functions:  
Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: 1. Knowledge of all types interior and exterior of paint, coatings, and waterproofing materials.

2. Dexterity and skill in "cutting in", brushing, and rolling on coatings to ensure proper coverage.

3. Ability to communicate effectively with others.

4. Ability to work cooperatively with colleagues, supervisory staff at all levels and the NSU community.

5. Ability to follow through and carry out assignments.

6. Ability to understand and apply University and Departmental policies and procedures.

7. Knowledge of proper and safe use of tools, solvents, chemicals etc.

8. Knowledgeable in the procedures and safety measures in area(s) of specialty.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS:

1. Must be able to lift, carry, push or pull a variety of tools, equipment and materials.

2. Must be able to safely lift 85 lbs.

3. Must be able to climb, balance, stoop, kneel and crouch to gain access to pipes, wiring and equipment.

4. Handles a variety of hand and power tools.

5. Near-visual acuity needed to read equipment diagrams and inspect parts.

6. Depth perception, field of vision and color vision needed in fitting and installing parts.

7. Exposed to wet and very hot conditions.

8. Exposed to noise and vibration from operating machinery.

9. Must be able to lift any trade tools, material and equipment.

10. Must be able to reach overhead.

11. May be required to work in confined areas to access equipment.
Job Requirements:  
Required Certifications/Licensures: Have and maintain a valid Florida Drivers License with no more than three (3) points.
Required Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent
Major (if required):  
Required Experience: 1. Formal training in the painting trade or complete an apprenticeship program.

2. Three (3) or more years painting experience including drywall repair, taping, spackle application and finishing and maintenance painting.
