Primary Purpose:

Demonstrate high quality instruction and mentoring to graduate and undergraduate students enrolled in the Master of Public Health and the Bachelor of Science in Public Health program. Collaborates with Dean and colleagues to improve students' learning experience and engagement at NSU and in the College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Essential Job Functions: 

1. Teach the equivalent of eight course sections per year in the Department of Public Health.

2. Design curriculum and/or program development, as assigned.

3. Select teaching and evaluation strategies appropriate to students.

4. Arrange classes to correspond with curriculum, program, and course outcomes.

5. Provide perspectives that include a respect for diverse views; responds to student inquiries.

6. Provide and maintain office hours for student mentoring, tutoring, remediation, and consultation.

7. Participate in department, college, and University committees and meetings.

8. Maintain the mission of the college by demonstrating flexibility in the scheduling of courses, supervision, or committee meetings.

9. Participate in state and/or local community service that is a recognized form of career development.

10. Advises students enrolled in the Master of Public Health and the Bachelor of Science in Public Health program.

11. Participate in student recruitment activities.

12. Perform other appropriate duties as assigned.

Job Requirements: 

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: 1. Ability to utilize a variety of teaching methods including lecture, discussion, collaborative learning and individualized instruction.

2. Ability to effectively present information to students, public groups, or professional organizations in the English language.

3. Ability to demonstrate and teach core functions of public health, including assessment, policy development, and assurance.

4. Ability to understand, apply, and teach core areas of public health education, including epidemiology, biostatistics, environmental health, and social and behavioral health sciences.

5. Ability to apply concepts to practical situations.

6. Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.

7. Ability to communicate effectively with others, both orally and in writing using the English language.

8. Ability to work cooperatively with colleagues, supervisors, and support staff at all levels.

9. Adaptability and willingness to teach courses and/or perform special duties as assigned.

Required Certifications/Licensures: 

Required Education: Doctoral Degree (PhD)

Major (if required: 

Required Experience: 1. Eight (8) to ten (10) years of related experience and/or training, including research or equivalent combination of education and experience.
2. Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals.

Preferred Qualifications: 

Doctoral or terminal degree preferred
