Primary Purpose:

Responsible for the management and coordination of all distance education activities of the COM; the management and coordination of all distance education activities of the Consortium for Excellence in Medical Education (CEME); the management and coordination for the operation, maintenance and oversight of the EMS Software used in the Clinical Simulation Center; the management and operation of the digital recording software in the Clinincal Simulation Center.

Essential Job Functions: 

1. Directs oversight, management and implementation of all logistics involved in COM and CEME distance education programs.
2. Liaises with OIT and travels to all affiliated institutions to coordinate the installation and maintenance of the compressed video units.
3. Responsible for the operation and maintenance of the EMS software system used in the Simulation Center for development and evaluation of clinical skills utilizing simulated patient encounters.
4. Responsible for contacting appropriate departments to ensure proper operations and maintenance of the digital recording software, computers and audio sets used in the Simulation Center.
5. Functions as the COM liaison with regard to all technology functions between the HPD IT Department, NSU IT Department, COM faculty and staff and representatives from software system companies.
6. Coordinates with OIT to provide training and assistance to additional COM personnel in the use of the EMS software, digital recording system, etc. to maximize and expand its use in the simulation center.
7. Networks with COM faculty, administration, Directors of Medical Education and Residency Directors to assist them in the creation, and implementation of distance education programming and other educational technology.
8. Assists the Physician Assistant Program by providing clinical training for students in physical examination skills using the Simulation Laboratory.
9. Interfaces with Office of Information Technology to provide educational support to programs using technology such as WebCT, video conference sessions, interactive web based instructional methodologies.
10. Participates in OPTI, AOA, AODME and AACOM meetings as necessary to improve COM and CEME distance education programming and increase COM visibility in this field.
11. Ensures the implementation, maintenance, and organization of all current policies and procedures needed for distance education and technology programs for the COM and CEME.
12. Monitors policies and procedures and recommends changes to administration that are needed to maintain high quality programs utilizing distance education and technology.
13. Recommends to administration the budget needed to maintain and update compressed video equipment, distance education programming and technology needed for simulated patient encounters.
14. Provides the leadership necessary to foster a highly professional distance education program and the use of innovative technology to enhance patient care by providing excellent clinical skills development for students and residents for the COM and CEME.
15. Completes special projects as assigned.
16. Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Required Education: Bachelor's Degree

Major (if required: 

Required Experience: Two (2) to four (4) years experience with delivery of distance education programs using compressed video equipment.
