Primary Purpose:
Working temporarily under the Department of Marine & Environmental Sciences, the Laboratory Assistant supports a student with a disability by facilitating access to and comprehension of laboratory exercises, ensuring full participation in all lab activities.

Essential Job Functions:
1. Translate laboratory materials and instructional content into braille to support student accessibility and comprehension and respond to student questions regarding course material.
2. Demonstrate subject-matter competency in concepts covered in MBIO 2500 to effectively assist with laboratory instruction and clarification of content.
3. Attend and actively support the student during all scheduled laboratory sessions to ensure full participation and access to course activities.
4. Coordinate with the Office of Disability Services to obtain, prepare, and deliver accessible materials in a timely manner.
Job Requirements: This position requires a weekly meeting with the assigned student (3 hours), and outside laboratory times to coordinate with the Office of Disability Services to produce teaching aids that pair well with the learning objectives of the lab.
Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Must have the ability to communicate marine science topics clearly and with care for the student that they are assisting.
Required Certifications/Licensures:
Required Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher
Major (if required: in a field related to marine science
Required Experience:
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working with disabled students, especially visually impaired, a plus
