Essential Job Functions: 1. Act as subject matter expert regarding student financial assistance.
2. Act as lead for student financial aid fiscal year audit.
3. Assist with classification and reporting of leases in accordance with accounting standards.
4. Reports to management regarding the finances of assigned unit(s).
5. Prepares, examines, or analyzes accounting records, or other financial reports to assess accuracy, completeness, and conformance to reporting and procedural standards.
6. Classifies, records, and summarizes numerical and financial data to compile and keep financial records, using journals and ledgers or computers.
7. Analyzes business operations, trends, costs, revenues, financial commitments, and/or obligations to project future revenues and expenses or to provide advice.
8. Coordinates accounting activities with other units.
9. Completes periodic reconciliations, analyses, and reviews, including the preparation of spreadsheets and journal entries.
10. Prepares and submits monthly, quarterly, and annual reports to internal and external stakeholders.
11. Assists in the monthly, quarterly, and fiscal year-end closing processes as needed, including but not limited to the preparation of work papers, reconciliations, and account analyses related to student financial aid and leases.
12. Performs accounting functions related to grants and contracts, including assisting in the development of budgets, approving expenditures, preparing invoices, and ensuring all accounting activity complies with the sponsor's policies and procedures.
13. Manages contracts and/or grants to ensure compliance with applicable policies, procedures, and guidelines; monitors related expenditures.
14. Performs grant-related post-award functions, including budget and expense analysis, periodic invoicing, financial reporting, labor distribution changes, reconciliations, re-budgeting and grant closeout functions required by Grants and Contracts Administration.
15. Communicates monthly financial results with appropriate program staff, informing them of financial position of the project.
16. Coordinates with program staff to process journal entries to various projects if needed.
17. Performs ad-hoc financial analysis in response to requests or to provide support to various programs.
18. Assists with monthly closings.
19. Compiles year-end reports, work papers and analysis necessary for the University’s auditors to complete the yearly audit.
20. Trains and provides ongoing technical assistance to program/department finance staff and program partners on best practices for financial management systems in order to increase capacity.
21. Represents the department and/or University at a variety of meetings, public events, training sessions, on committees, and/or other related events.
22. Develops positive working relationships to foster a collaborative environment for grant coordination and oversight.
23. Attends professional development training and stay abreast of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Circulars and their applicability to grant management related audit, federal regulations, state laws and University policies, and any workshops or seminars on grants or sponsored programs.
24. Maintains grant fiscal records and database.
25. Recommends, creates, updates, and communicates policies and procedures as needed.
26. Provides training as needed to disseminate information, improve processes, or improve reporting functionality.
27. Completes special projects as assigned.
28. Performs other duties as assigned or required.

1. Basic knowledge of MS Access and/or other database reporting tools.
2. Advanced knowledge of MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word and Excel).
3. Accounting - Thorough knowledge of non-profit GAAP accounting principles and practices, and the analysis and reporting of financial data.
4. English Language - Thorough knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
