Essential Job Functions: The Chair serves as the administrative leader of the department, providing strategic direction, resource management, and fostering a collaborative environment. This role is primarily administrative (75%), with some teaching and research responsibilities (25%).

Administrative Duties
1. Leadership and Strategic Planning
- Establishes and implements the department’s vision in alignment with the college and university goals.
- Develops strategic plans, goals, and initiatives to enhance departmental performance and innovation.
- Fosters a student-centered culture that supports academic excellence and inclusivity.
- Cultivates an environment that promotes responsibility, mentorship, and professional growth among faculty and staff.
2. Department Management
- Oversees the department's structure, resource allocation, and performance assessment.
- Manages budgets, space, and course scheduling; assign faculty to courses.
- Supervises faculty and staff, ensuring adherence to university policies for promotions and salary adjustments.
- Prepares and submit annual reports and accreditation-related documentation.
- Maintains up-to-date and relevant curricula and ensure instructional quality.
3. Faculty and Staff Development
- Recruits and mentor faculty to enhance teaching, research, and professional development.
- Supports faculty in securing grants, producing research, and participating in professional activities.
- Promotes diversity and foster a collegial atmosphere within the department.
4. Communication and Outreach
- Acts as a liaison between the department and stakeholders, including the Dean, university administration, and external entities.
- Promotes the department’s accomplishments to students, businesses, and the broader community.
- Ensures timely and professional communication regarding department activities and policies.
5. Additional Administrative Duties
- Serves on university committees and engage in strategic planning initiatives.
- Takes on special assignments to support the college and university as needed.
Teaching and Research Duties
1. Teaches two courses annually in the candidate’s area of expertise.
2. Maintains some research activities and secure extramural funding.
3. Contributes to service activities that advance the mission of the university and department.

Required Education: Doctoral Degree
Major (if required): in relevant field within Marine and Environmental Sciences.
Required Experience: 1. At least 5 years of experience in college-level teaching and grant writing.
2. Demonstrated success in securing extramural funding.
3. Leadership and management experience in higher education, including faculty development and resource management
