Primary Purpose:

Contributes to the organization's financial success by analyzing financial information and preparing financial reports to determine or maintain records of assets, liabilities, profit and loss, tax liability, or other financial activities.

Essential Job Functions: 

1. Reports to management regarding the finances of assigned unit(s).
2. Assists in formulating strategic business plans for assigned unit.
3. Prepares, examines, or analyzes accounting records, or other financial reports to assess accuracy, completeness, and conformance to reporting and procedural standards.
4. Classifies, records, and summarizes numerical and financial data to compile and keep financial records, using journals and ledgers or computers.
5. Analyzes business operations, trends, costs, revenues, financial commitments, and/or obligations to project future revenues and expenses or to provide advice.
6. Appraises, evaluates, and inventories real property and equipment, recording information such as the description, value, and location of property.
7. Coordinates accounting activities with other units.
8. Completes periodic reconciliations, analyses, and reviews, including the preparation of spreadsheets and journal entries.
9. Prepares and submits monthly, quarterly, and annual reports to internal and external stakeholders.
10. Assists in the monthly, quarterly, and fiscal year-end closing processes as needed, including the preparation of work papers, reconciliations, and account analyses.
11. Performs accounting functions related to grants and contracts, including assisting in the development of budgets, approving expenditures, preparing invoices, and ensuring all accounting activity complies with the sponsor's policies and procedures.
12. Develops, implements, modifies, and documents recordkeeping and accounting systems, making use of current computer technology.
13. Performs accounting functions related to grants and contracts, including assisting in the development of budgets, approving expenditures, preparing invoices, and ensuring all accounting activity complies with the sponsor's policies and procedures.
14. Directs the preparation of regular and special budget reports.
15. Manages bank reconciliation process from start to finish.
16. Prepares weekly/monthly journal entries.
17. Prepares monthly financial decks for business units.
18. Seeks new ways to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and increase profits.
19. Responsible for system reports out of NextGen, Axium, Banner, and PioneerRx, testing, validation, and creation.
20. Develops, maintains, and analyzes budgets, preparing periodic reports that compare budgeted revenues and expenses to actuals.
21. Advises management about issues such as resource utilization and the assumptions underlying budget forecasts.
22. Recommends, creates, updates, and communicates policies and procedures as needed.
23. Provides training as needed to disseminate information, improve processes, or improve reporting functionality.
24. Ensures compliance with university policies and procedures; county, state, federal, and international regulations; professional association guidelines; and accreditation requirements.
25. Completes special projects as assigned.
26. Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Job Requirements: 

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Knowledge:
1. Advanced knowledge of MS Access and/or other database reporting tools. Nice to have, but not required.
2. Accounting - Thorough knowledge of non-profit GAAP accounting principles and practices, and the analysis and reporting of financial data.
3. English Language - General knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
4. Computers and Electronics - General knowledge of computer hardware and software, including applications and programming.
5. Administration and Management - General knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, budgeting, human resources modeling, leadership technique, and/or coordination of people and resources.
6. Customer and Personal Service - General knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
1. Near Vision - Must be able to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
2. Speech Recognition - Must be able to identify and understand the speech of another person.
3. Travel - Must be able to travel on a daily and/or overnight basis.
4. May be required to work nights or weekends.
5. May be exposed to short, intermittent, and/or prolonged periods of sitting and/or standing in performance of job duties.
6. May be required to accomplish job duties using various types of equipment/supplies, to include but not limited to pens, pencils, mobile devices, and computer keyboards.

Required Certifications/Licensures: 

Required Education: Bachelor's Degree

Major (if required: 

Required Experience: Two (2) to four (4) years of experience in accounting or related field.

Preferred Qualifications: 

1. Master’s Degree
2. CPA
