Primary Purpose:

Coordinates health care for patients in accordance with state and federal rules and regulations and nursing standards of care (assessment of health status, diagnosis, development of plan of care and treatment, implementation of treatment plan, and evaluation of patient status), as well as pre-and postoperative care. May administer vaccinations and prescribe medications for common illnesses; may also order laboratory tests, X-rays, and other diagnostic procedures.

Essential Job Functions: 

This position is contingent on the availability and continuation of external-funding and/or contract. As such, any offer of employment may be withdrawn or employment ended in the event the external funding and/or contract ceases or is reduced.

1. Provides advanced nursing care to patients with complex acute. critical, and chronic health conditions,
including the delivery of acute care services.

2. Practices in any setting in which patients require complex monitoring and therapies, high intensity nursing intervention. or continuous nursing vigilance within the range of high-acuity care.

3. Conducts thorough medical histories, performs complete physical examinations {where indicated), initiates appropriate lab, radiology tests or other special tests required for evaluation of illness, and scrutinizes lab data on new and former clinic patients and hospital admissions to establish a record of the patient's current health status and to develop a working diagnosis and treatment plan.

4. Performs and interprets, at least to the point of recognizing deviations from normal, common laboratory, radiologic, cardiography and other routine diagnostic procedures used to identify pathophysiologic processes.

5. May prescribe and monitor medications as allowed by prescriptive authorities through applicable state Board of Nursing/Medicine.

6. Performs specialized procedures, including blood draws, designated IV starts, spinal taps, as well as other specific procedures as directed by the physician.

7. Provides information and answers routine questions of patients regarding their disease, including preventive health maintenance topics such as diet, weight, smoking, and topics related to medical specialties, with basic recommendations.

8. Educates patients regarding their disease, treatments, related drug and treatment side effects and hazards.

9. Participates in medical team rounds, collaborates with nursing, medical and other healthcare team members, regularly, to ensure quality patient care.

10. Ensures continuity of care by serving as a liaison between patient and other members of the multi­ disciplinary care team or with other specialty areas as necessary.

11. Performs research follow-up studies and assists in data analysis.

12. Participates in quality monitoring through the review of records and treatment plans for patient outcomes on a periodic basis to assure quality care.

13. May serve as clinical preceptor for PNAPRN students and other health professionals.

14. Assesses and evaluates health research literature.

15. Completes projects as required.

16. Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Job Requirements: 

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Knowledge:
1. Medicine - Thorough knowledge of the information and techniques needed to diagnose and treat human diseases or disorders. This includes symptoms. treatment alternatives, drug properties and interactions, and preventative healthcare measures.
2. Advanced knowledge of principles and practices associated with the rights and responsibilities of patients and caregivers.
3. Knowledge of and ability to use industry standards, policies, and procedures relevant to function and
organization.
4. Knowledge of and ability to assess ailments of patients and implement a treatment plan.
5. Knowledge of the operating principles, major issues, governmental regulations, and code of ethics for the healthcare industry, ability to apply this understanding appropriately to healthcare related situations.
6. Knowledge of the relevance of health information and appropriate documentation methods, ability to
record medical histories, symptoms, vital signs, medications, diagnoses, treatment plans, procedures, tests, and medical results in written or electronic form.
7. Knowledge of the risks faced by patients in a healthcare environment, and the ability to take steps to reduce these tasks.

Physical Requirements and working Conditions:
1. Speech Recognition - Must be able to identify and understand the speech of another person.

3. Near Vision - Must be able to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
4. Manual Dexterity.
5. May be exposed to short, intermittent. and/or prolonged periods of sitting and/or standing in performance of job duties.
6. May be required to accomplish job duties using various types of equipment/supplies, to include but not
limited to pens. pencils, mobile devices, and computer keyboards.
7. Travel - Must be able to travel on a daily and/or overnight basis.
8. May be required to work nights or weekends.


Required Certifications/Licensures: 1. Maintain current Florida Nursing license.
2. Current Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) license.
3. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).

Required Education: Master's degree

Major (if required: Nursing

Required Experience: 1. Minimum three (3) years of related experience and/or training.
2. Experience with medication management. invasive and non-invasive ventilatory support, parenteral nutrition.

Preferred Qualifications: 

1. Experience in research.
2. Experience in participating in multidisciplinary clinics with patients with chronic neurodegenerative disorders, including ALS.
3. Bilingual English-Spanish speaker
