Primary Purpose:

Designs, implements, and evaluates high-impact programs and services that promote student success. Provides personalized outreach and advocacy to connect graduate, online, and non-traditional students with meaningful involvement opportunities and essential support resources.

Essential Job Functions: 

1. Plans, directs, supervises, and coordinates the work activities of Graduate Assistants and Federal Work-Study staff, including hiring, coaching, evaluating, and terminating. Approves timecards.

2. Travels to regional campuses 1–2 times per semester to ensure consistent engagement and support across all student populations.

3. Provides strategic leadership and oversight for all student engagement initiatives, programming, and operational support functions.

4. Cultivates a campus culture that fosters a strong sense of belonging, affinity, and retention among students at NSU.

5. Conducts personalized outreach to new students to inform them of available resources and facilitate their connection to the university through events such as orientation, Weeks of Welcome, and student organization fairs.

6. Creates opportunities for students to engage in developmental activities that support personal growth and help shape their identity as members of the NSU community.

7. Supports students by offering programs and services tailored to their unique needs and recognizing their accomplishments.

8. Provides oversight for the development and success of all 14 student government associations. Assists with daily operations, recruits and trains student leaders, ensures organizations remain active and engaged, and assumes overall responsibility for the effectiveness and impact of student governance.

9. Serves as a liaison among students, faculty, and college and university departments, fostering collaborative relationships and open communication.

10. Assists in the adjudication of cases involving potential violations of the Student Code of Conduct.

11. Contributes to the development of departmental goals that align with the university’s mission and strategic priorities.

12. Designs, orders, and maintains departmental marketing materials; oversees and updates departmental and program websites.

13. Manages and updates the monthly engagement calendar to provide students with diverse engagement opportunities.

14. Advises and holds ultimate responsibility for the President 64, the Sharkettes Dance Team, and the management of Razor the Mascot.

15. Coordinates and oversees travel logistics for events.

16. Provides overall direction, supervision, and coordination in the planning and execution of special events such as Weeks of Welcome, Homecoming, and the monthly engagement calendar.

17. Provides monthly reports on programming, enrollment, and other key data.

18. Completes special projects as assigned.

19. Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Job Requirements: 

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Knowledge:
1. Knowledge of current theories and best practices related to college student development and engagement.
2. Knowledge of student activities programs.
3. Administration and Management - General knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, budgeting, and/or coordination of people and resources.
4. Personnel and Human Resources - Working knowledge of principles and procedures for personnel recruitment, selection, and training.
5. Customer and Personal Service - Thorough knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services.
6. English Language - Thorough knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
7. Psychology - General knowledge of human behavior and performance, individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation.
8. Advanced knowledge of MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Required Certifications/Licensures: 

Required Education: Bachelor's degree

Major (if required: 

Required Experience: Minimum of four (4) years of closely related experience, preferably in student leadership development and student programming.

Preferred Qualifications: 

1. Previous experience working in higher education, working with diverse student populations.
2. Prior experience supervising work activities of staff at distant locations.
3. Previous experience supervising student employees and/or student leaders.
