Primary Purpose:

Plans, directs, and/or coordinates the training and development activities of NSU Health; assesses training needs; designs, develops, and delivers training and development programs to improve individual and organizational performance with the intent of increasing process knowledge, job capabilities, and retention.

This position is contingent on the availability and continuation of external-funding and/or contract. As such, any offer of employment may be withdrawn or employment ended in the event the external funding and/or contract ceases or is reduced.

Essential Job Functions: 

1. Assesses training needs through surveys, interviews with employees, focus groups, or consultation with leadership.

2. Analyzes training needs to develop new training programs or modify and improve existing programs.

3. Acts as subject matter expert for Electronic Medical Record application modules' functionality and workflows to teach end-users how to properly use the system.

4. Plans, develops, and provides training and staff development programs, using knowledge of the effectiveness of methods such as classroom training, demonstrations, on-the-job training, meetings, conferences, and workshops.

5. Develops and organizes training manuals, multimedia visual aids, and other educational materials.

6. Interviews subject matter experts or conducts other research to develop instructional content.

7. Presents and makes recommendations regarding course design, technology, and instruction delivery options.

8. Creates and manages training schedules facilitates courses or train-the-trainer, as appropriate.

9. Develops testing and evaluation procedures.

10. Develops measurement tools to evaluate the effectiveness of instruction or training interventions.

11. Conducts orientation sessions and arranges on-the-job training for new hires. Develops a new employee training schedule for non-clinical employees.

12. Assesses effectiveness and efficiency of instruction according to ease of instructional technology use and student learning, knowledge transfer, and satisfaction.

13. Analyzes performance data to determine effectiveness of instructional systems, courses, or instructional materials.

14. Monitors, evaluates, or records training activities or program effectiveness.

15. Observes and provides feedback on instructional techniques, presentation methods, or instructional aids.

16. Recommends changes to curricula or delivery methods, based on information such as instructional effectiveness data, current or future performance requirements, feasibility, and costs.

17. Develops alternative training methods if expected improvements are not seen.

18. Conducts or arranges for ongoing technical training and personal development classes for staff members.

19. Attends meetings, educational conferences, and training workshops and serves on committees.

20. Ensures compliance with university and departmental policies and procedures, including compliance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) to safeguard protected health information (PHI).

21. Completes special projects as assigned.

22. Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Job Requirements: 

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:  Knowledge:
1. Education and Training - Proficient knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects.
2. English Language - Proficient knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
3. Customer and Personal Service - Proficient knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of user satisfaction.
4. Psychology - Working knowledge of human behavior and performance, individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; and learning and motivation.
5. Communications and Media - Proficient knowledge of media production, visual, verbal, and interactive communication, and dissemination techniques and methods. This includes alternative ways to inform and persuade via written, oral, and visual media.
6. Advanced knowledge of MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Physical Requirements and Working Environment:
1. Speech Recognition - Must be able to identify and understand the speech of another person.

3. Near Vision - Must be able to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
4. Travel - Must be able to travel on a daily and/or overnight basis.
5. May be required to work nights or weekends.
6. May be exposed to short, intermittent, and/or prolonged periods of sitting and/or standing in performance of job duties.
7. May be required to accomplish job duties using various types of equipment/supplies, to include but not limited to pens, pencils, and computer keyboards.

Required Certifications/Licensures: 

Required Education: Bachelor’s degree

Major (if required: 

Required Experience: Five (5) years of related experience, preferably in training and development in a healthcare or corporate environment.

Preferred Qualifications: 

1. At least one (1) current certification CPLP, CTC, CT CPTM or equivalent.
2. Six Sigma certification.
3. Master’s degree with concentration in Healthcare
