Primary Purpose:

Contributes to the University’s success by leading the strategic transformation, governance alignment, and operational delivery of enterprise business intelligence capabilities. Responsible for modernizing the Business Intelligence (BI) function through adoption of Microsoft Fabric and best-in-class analytics practices, advancing trusted data products, and enabling decision-ready insights. Partners closely with Data Governance, Data Engineering, and institutional stakeholders to ensure the BI team serves as a consultative, trusted advisor model that enhances decision-making, data literacy, and institutional performance.

Essential Job Functions: 

1. Leads and supports the strategic vision, roadmap, and execution for enterprise BI, aligning with institutional data strategy and governance priorities.
2. Directs the transition of BI platforms and practices to Microsoft Fabric, including data modeling, semantic layer design, and scalable analytics delivery.
3. Establishes and operationalizes a centralized BI delivery model (e.g., hub-and-spoke) to ensure consistency, quality, and scalability of analytics solutions.
4. Partners with Data Governance to embed data standards, data quality practices, and data stewardship into BI development and delivery processes.
5. Defines, implements, and enforces BI development standards, including data contracts, data products design and UX, certification processes, and lifecycle management.
6. Oversees the design, development, and maintenance of dashboards, reports, and analytical data products that support executive and operational decision-making.
7. Serves as a strategic advisor to business leaders, translating business needs into analytical solutions and guiding data-driven decisions.
8. Leads intake, prioritization, and execution of BI initiatives, ensuring alignment with institutional priorities and resource capacity.
9. Supervises and develops a team of BI analysts, fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
10. Transforms BI team capabilities from report developers to consultative analytics partners, emphasizing storytelling, insight generation, and business impact.
11. Ensures integration of BI solutions across enterprise data platforms, including data warehouse, lakehouse, and downstream applications.
12. Establishes performance metrics and KPIs for BI delivery, adoption, data quality, and business value realization.
13. Collaborates with data scientists to support advanced analytics use cases, serving as a sounding board and ensuring alignment with enterprise data architecture.
14. Oversees ad hoc analytics and special projects, ensuring timely and high-quality delivery of insights to support strategic initiatives.
15. Implements and promotes data literacy initiatives across the institution to increase effective use of BI solutions.
16. Ensures compliance with University policies; regulatory requirements; and data privacy, security, and governance standards.
17. Leads vendor/tool evaluation and optimization of BI and analytics technologies.
18. Drives continuous improvement of BI processes, tools, and operating model to meet evolving institutional needs.
19. Serves as the BI representative in cross-functional governance forums and committees.
20. Prepares executive-level communications, dashboards, and presentations to inform leadership decisions.
21. Completes special projects as assigned.
22. Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Job Requirements: 

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: 

Knowledge:
1. Business Intelligence & Analytics Platforms – Advanced knowledge of BI tools (e.g., Power BI, Microsoft Fabric) and enterprise analytics ecosystems.
2. Data Governance – Strong understanding of data governance frameworks, data quality, stewardship, and metadata management.
3. Data Architecture – Knowledge of data warehousing, lakehouse architectures, data modeling, and semantic layers.
4. Cloud Technologies – Understanding of cloud-based analytics platforms and modern data integration patterns.
5. Institutional Analytics – Knowledge of higher education data domains (e.g., enrollment, academics, finance) preferred.
6. Strong stakeholder management: facilitation, influencing without authority and executive communication.
7. Project managed skills: roadmaps, process design, change management and adoption success.
8. Effective communication skills and ability to write clearly, concisely for a wide range of stakeholders

Physical Requirements:
1. Speech Recognition - Must be able to identify and understand the speech of another person.

3. May be required to work nights or weekends.

Required Certifications/Licensures: 

Required Education: Bachelor's Degree

Major (if required): Information Systems, Data Analytics, or related field

Required Experience: 

1. Seven (7) or more years of related experience in business intelligence, analytics, or data management.
2. Three (3) or more years of leadership or supervisory experience.

Preferred Qualifications: 

1. Master’s degree preferred.
2. Relevant certifications preferred (e.g., Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, data governance certifications).
3. Experience with Microsoft Fabric or similar modern data platforms.
4. Experience establishing or leading a centralized BI or analytics function.
5. Hands-on experience with data governance programs and frameworks (e.g., DAMA DMBOK).
6. Experience supporting executive dashboards and strategic decision-making initiatives.
7. Experience working in higher education or similarly complex environments.
8. Ellucian Banner experience.
