Primary Purpose:

Teaches in one or more discipline-based courses (anatomy, biochemistry, microbiology, pharmacology, pathology, physiology) in the Health Professions Division (Allopathic Medicine, Dental, Health Sciences, Nursing, Optometry, Osteopathic Medicine, and Pharmacy). Additionally, teaches in interdisciplinary blocks (fundamentals, hematology, neurological sciences/musculoskeletal, cardiovascular/pulmonary/renal, gastrointestinal/nutrition, endocrine/reproductive, psychiatry/behavior/prevention over the lifecycle) and facilitates problem based learning and team based learning groups.

The Program Director for the Master of Science in Global Health is responsible for the development, implementation, oversight, and evaluation of the Master of Science in Global Health program within the Kiran C. Patel College of Allopathic Medicine (NSU MD). This role includes academic leadership in curriculum design, teaching, faculty collaboration, and student mentorship. The position also involves establishing and maintaining global partnerships to support educational, research, and experiential learning initiatives. The faculty member contributes to the strategic goals of the college through scholarship, service, and the advancement of interprofessional and international education initiatives. This individual serves as a key liaison between the program and internal departments, as well as external partners, to ensure alignment with institutional standards and global health competencies. Teaches graduate and undergraduate medical education courses within the Kiran C. Patel College of Allopathic Medicine (NSU MD).

The Director of NSU Ocean Health Initiative (NOHI) is responsible for the university-wide program advancing human health through ocean and environmental sustainability. This is a strategic appointment focused on research leadership, program development, and cross-sector collaboration to position NSU as a national model for integrated ocean and health sciences. This role will facilitate building NOHI’s identity and impact by uniting NSU’s strengths across medicine, marine science, public health, environmental studies, biotechnology, and sustainability to drive innovation at the intersection of planetary and human health.

Teaching Job Functions:
1. Plans, evaluates, and revises curricula, course/block content, course/block materials, and methods of instruction.
2. Prepares course/block materials, such as syllabi, homework assignments, test questions, and handouts.
3. Prepares materials for laboratory activities and course/block materials, such as syllabi, homework assignments, and handouts.
4. Compiles bibliographies of specialized materials for outside reading assignments.
5. Initiates, facilitates, and moderates PBL and TBL discussions.
6. Assists students who need extra help with their coursework outside of class.
7. Maintains student attendance records, grades, and other required records.
8. Evaluates and grades students' class work, laboratory and clinic work, assignments, and papers.
9. Compiles, administers, and grades examinations, or assigns this work to others.
10. Maintains regularly scheduled office hours to advise and assist students.
11. Advises students on academic and vocational curricula and on career issues.
12. Assesses medical student needs using a variety of methods.
13. Collaborates with colleagues to address teaching and research issues.
14. Serves on academic or administrative committees that deal with institutional policies, departmental matters, and academic issues.
15. Participates in student recruitment, registration, and placement activities.
16. Participates in campus and community events, such as giving presentations to the public.
17. Conducts research in a particular field of knowledge and publishes findings in professional journals, books, or electronic media.
18. Reviews papers for publication in journals.
19. Supervises undergraduate or graduate teaching, internship, and research work.
20. Mentors students and junior faculty members.
21. Keeps abreast of developments in the field by reading current literature, talking with colleagues, and participating in professional conferences.
22. Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Director of Global Health and Graduate Programs Job Functions:
1. Leads the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the Master of Science in Global Health curriculum, ensuring alignment with global health education standards and institutional goals.
2. Establishes and maintains partnerships with international institutions, NGOs, and other global health stakeholders to support student learning, faculty collaboration, and program visibility.
3. Oversees the planning and coordination of global health experiential learning opportunities, including fieldwork, practicums, and international research or service projects.

Director of NSU Ocean Health Initiative (NOHI) Job Functions:
1. Serves as the primary academic and strategic lead for the NSU Ocean Health Initiative focused on the six core objectives:
• Catalyze Grant-Funded Multidisciplinary Research
• Advance Human Health Through Ocean Sustainability
• Forge Strategic Partnerships with Industry and Government
• Develop Ocean-Based Clinical Research Infrastructure
• Serve as a National Model for Integrated Ocean & Health Sciences
• Educate the Next Generation of Health and Environmental Leaders
2. Leads grant-funded, multidisciplinary integrated ocean and health sciences research.
3. Identifies and pursue grant opportunities, partnerships, philanthropic support, and federal funding in areas such as marine biotechnology, climate and health, environmental equity, and blue space mental health.
4. Represents NOHI within NSU and externally at scientific meetings, conferences, and with prospective partners.
5. Engages biotechnology, marine, and health industry partners to accelerate translational research, pilot programs, and commercialization pathways.
6. Supports the development of clinical research infrastructure involving ocean-derived compounds and sustainability-focused wellness interventions
7. Mentors junior faculty and students interested in research and leadership in planetary health.
8. Contributes to the creation of new educational experiences and research training programs connected to ocean and environmental health.
9. Supervises undergraduate or graduate teaching, internship, and research work.
10. Serves as a mentor to students and junior faculty members.
11. Keeps abreast of developments in the field by reading current literature, talking with colleagues, and participating in professional conferences.
12. Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Job Requirements: For Instructor rank: Masters degree. College-level teaching experience.

For Assistant Professor rank: Doctoral or terminal degree. College-level teaching experience.

For Associate Professor rank: Continued professional growth and success in full-time university teaching for four (4) years at the rank of Assistant Professor; scholarly contributions to the university, higher education, or one's academic area(s) of specialization that have received peer recognition.

For Professor rank: Continued professional growth and success in full-time university teaching for five (5) years at the rank of Associate Professor; significant scholarly contributions to the university, higher education, or one's academic area(s) of specialization that have that have been recognized as substantial by one's peers.
