Primary Purpose:
Provides legal counsel and strategic guidance on matters related to healthcare operations, compliance, and risk management across the university’s medical, research, and clinical entities. Ensures institutional adherence to federal and state healthcare laws, supports contract negotiations, and advises on regulatory issues impacting academic medicine.

Essential Job Functions:
1. Advises university leadership, medical faculty, and clinical departments on healthcare law, including clinical operations, clinical research, physician and practice acquisitions, clinical and other affiliation agreements, Title IV and IX issues, education compliance, ADA, HIPAA, Stark Law, Anti-Kickback Statute, and the Affordable Care Act.
2. Drafts, reviews, and negotiates contracts related to clinical services, research, vendor agreements, and affiliations.
3. Provides legal support for healthcare compliance programs and internal audits.
4. Assists in oversight in administrative proceedings and liaise with regulatory agencies (e.g., CMS, OCR, DOJ).
5. Counsels on medical malpractice, patient rights, consent, and confidentiality issues.
6. Supports legal aspects of healthcare transactions, mergers, and joint ventures.
7. Monitors changes in healthcare legislation and assess institutional impact.
8. Collaborates with risk management, compliance, and human resources teams on cross-functional legal matters.
9. Delivers training and education on healthcare legal topics to faculty and staff.
10. Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Job Requirements:
Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: 1. Deep knowledge of healthcare regulations and university governance structures.
2. Strong analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.
3. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
Physical Requirements and Working Environment:
1.Speech Recognition - Must be able to identify and understand the speech of another person.

4.Travel - Must be able to travel on a daily and/or overnight basis.
5.May be required to work nights or weekends.
6.May be exposed to short, intermittent, and/or prolonged periods of sitting and/or standing in performance of job duties.
7.May be required to accomplish job duties using various types of equipment/supplies, to include but not limited to pens, pencils, and computer keyboards.
Required Certifications/Licensures: Active license to practice law in the State of Florida.
Required Education: Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
Major (if required:
Required Experience: Eight (8) years of experience in healthcare law, preferably in academic or hospital settings.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Prior work with academic medical centers or university-affiliated hospitals.
2. Familiarity with research compliance (e.g., IRB, clinical trials, FDA regulations).
3. Experience with employment law as it intersects with healthcare operations.
