Primary Purpose:

Provisions, installs, configures, and maintains enterprise systems and applications to support university operations and academic initiatives.

Essential Job Functions: 

1. Maintains and administers computer networks and related computing environments including computer hardware, systems software, applications software, and/or all configurations.

2. Assists in the development of procedures to ensure optimal performance.

3. Monitors the performance of computer systems and networks, and coordinates computer network access and use.

4. Monitors network and/or systems performance to determine whether adjustments need to be made, and to determine where changes will need to be made in the future.

5. Performs systems maintenance tasks, such as software configuration, software patching, and operating system upgrades.

6. Diagnoses, troubleshoots, and resolves hardware, software, or other network and system problems, and replaces defective components when necessary.

7. Manages software maintenance issues with vendors; mantains an accurate log of changes made to the system.

8. Installs, configures, and maintains applications needed to support systems operations.

9. Plans and implements software installations, additions, and upgrades to systems.

10. Coordinates preventive maintenance procedures with field service staff.

11. Performs routine applications startup and shutdown procedures and maintains control records as directed.

12. Maintains logs related to applications and systems functions, as well as maintenance and repair records.

13. Analyzes equipment performance records to determine the need for repair or replacement.

14. Confers with applications and systems stakeholders about how to solve existing problems.

15. Completes special projects as assigned.

16. Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Job Requirements: 

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Knowledge:
1. Computers and Electronics – Working knowledge of circuit boards, processors, chips, electronic equipment, and computer hardware and software, including applications and programming.
2. Knowledge of Linux and Windows operating system concepts and operations.
3. Knowledge of one or more scripting languages such as VB, Windows Batch Scripting, and PowerShell scripting.
4. Mathematics - General knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, and/or statistics, and their applications.

Skills:
1. Critical Thinking – Basic skills in using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
2. Reading Comprehension - Proficient understanding of written sentences and paragraphs in work-related documents.
3. Systems Analysis - Basic skills in determining how a system should work and how changes in conditions, operations, and the environment will affect outcomes.
4. Complex Problem Solving - Proficient skills in identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
5. Systems Evaluation – Basic skills in identifying measures or indicators of system performance and the actions needed to improve or correct performance, relative to the goals of the system.
6. Active Listening - Proficient skills in giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
7. Programming – Basic skills in writing computer programs for various purposes.

Abilities:
1. Information Ordering - The ability to arrange things or actions in a certain order or pattern according to a specific rule or set of rules (e.g., patterns of numbers, letters, words, pictures, mathematical operations).
2. Deductive Reasoning - The ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense.
3. Problem Sensitivity - The ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem.

Physical Requirements and Working Environment:
1. Speech Recognition - Must be able to identify and understand the speech of another person.
2. Speech Clarity - Must be able to speak clearly so others can understand you.
3. Near Vision - Must be able to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
4. Travel - Must be able to travel on a daily and/or overnight basis.
5. May be required to work nights or weekends.
6. May be exposed to short, intermittent, and/or prolonged periods of sitting and/or standing in performance of job duties.
7. May be required to accomplish job duties using various types of equipment/supplies, to include but not limited to pens, pencils, and computer keyboards.

Required Certifications/Licensures: 

Required Education: High School Diploma

Major (if required: 

Required Experience: High School Diploma and minimum four (4) years of technology related experience,

-OR-

Associate’s degree and minimum two (2) years of technology related experience,

-OR-

Bachelor’s degree and up to (1) year of technology related experience.

Preferred Qualifications: 

1. Microsoft 365 Certified: Modern Desktop Administrator Associate or Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate.

2. Previous experience working in an educational institution.
