Primary Purpose:

Under direct supervision of a Principal Investigator or designee, supports moderately complex to complex research activities at the University.

 

Job Category: Non-Exempt

Hiring Range:  Commensurate with experience

Pay Basis:  Hourly

Essential Job Functions: 

1. Contributes to basic and applied research activities. Performs a variety of tests requiring a high degree of proficiency, makes detailed observations, analyzes data, and interprets results.
2. Troubleshoots problems and recommends solutions.
3. Understands and interprets research protocols and procedures.
4. May participate in the publication of significant results.
5. Advances expertise through education, training, and/or research experience.
6. Performs other job duties as assigned or required.

Job Requirements: 

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Knowledge
1. Principles and practices of laboratory research and scientific methodology.
2. Laboratory safety procedures, chemical handling, and regulatory compliance requirements.
3. Research protocols, data collection techniques, and record-keeping standards.
4. Basic statistical concepts and research data analysis methods.
5. Operation and maintenance of laboratory equipment and instruments.

Skills
1. Performing laboratory tests, experiments, and sample preparation accurately.
2. Collecting, recording, organizing, and analyzing research data.
3. Maintaining detailed laboratory records and documentation.
4. Operating laboratory equipment and troubleshooting routine issues.
5. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and research-related software/databases.
6. Time management and prioritization of multiple research activities.
7. Written and verbal communication skills for reporting findings and collaborating with research teams.

Abilities
1. Ability to follow detailed research protocols and standard operating procedures.
2. Ability to work independently while maintaining accuracy and quality standards.
3. Ability to analyze data and identify inconsistencies or trends.
4. Ability to maintain confidentiality of research data and sensitive information.
5. Ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, researchers, students, and staff.

Physical Requirements:
1. Speech Recognition - Must be able to identify and understand the speech of another person.
2. Speech Clarity - Must be able to speak clearly so others can understand you.
3. Near Vision - Must be able to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
4. May be exposed to short, intermittent, and/or prolonged periods of sitting and/or standing in performance of job duties.
5. May be required to accomplish job duties using various types of equipment/supplies, to include but not limited to pens, pencils, mobile devices, and computer keyboards.

Required Certifications/Licensures: 

Required Education: Bachelor's Degree

Major (if required: 

Required Experience: Two (2) to five (5) years of related experience.
