Primary Purpose:
Under limited supervision of a Principal Investigator or designee, supports complex research activities at the University.

Essential Job Functions:
1. Helps develop, design and conduct research projects according to plan.
2. Oversees day-to-day operation of project.
3. Contributes to basic and applied research activities. Performs a variety of tests requiring a high degree of proficiency, makes detailed observations, analyzes data, and interprets results. Evaluates experiment results using statistical and multivariate analysis.
4. Participates in formulating research methods and suggesting options for improving quality and recommending solutions, and collaborates in the development of new techniques.
5. Participates in computer database design and utilization and research/data analysis, and suggests future improvements in data measurement.
6. Understands and interprets research protocols and procedures. May develop protocol and criteria; may determine interview procedures and approve protocols; may also design intervention protocols.
7. Acts as a specialist on laboratory or other research methods and equipment functions.
8. May participate in the publication of significant results. May co author publications and may co-present results with Principal Investigator at meetings and/or conferences.
9. May write extramural proposals or monitor the work of students.
10. May act as liaison with other departments, divisions, or organizations.
11. Advances expertise through education, training, and/or research experience.
12. Performs other job duties as assigned or required.
Job Requirements:
Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Knowledge:
1. Biology - Knowledge of plant and animal organisms, their tissues, cells, functions, interdependencies, and interactions with each other and the environment.
2. Chemistry - Knowledge of the chemical composition, structure, and properties of substances and of the chemical processes and transformations that they undergo. This includes uses of chemicals and interactions, danger signs, production techniques, and disposal methods.

Physical Requirements:

Required Education: Master's Degree
Major (if required:
Required Experience: Five (5) years working in laboratory research.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience working with a Mass Spectrometer.
