Primary Purpose:

Leads a highly specialized or multifaceted research program and directs the work of other research scholars and associates.

Essential Job Functions: 

1. May lead the submission of proposals for external sponsored funding and may serve as principal investigators on sponsored projects.
2. Responsible for administrative, financial, personnel and planning aspects of project.
3. Designs instrumentation, theoretical models, equipment or other vehicles for data gathering and analysis.
4. Investigates, modifies and applies new procedures, techniques or applications of technology, integrating new findings in field of study.
5. Conducts research in area of expertise, writing results for inclusion in broader research project. Designs and applies scientific and numerical models in research. Oversees development of data collection and instruments. Monitors integrity of data collection and use of protocols and procedures.
6. Reviews and critiques reports and analysis of other researchers and conducts ongoing, periodic and final analyses of data, using specialized techniques and programming.
7. Writes and collaborates with other researchers on manuscripts, abstracts and other publications of research findings. Presents results of study at professional meetings and other forums.
8. Oversees researchers and staff engaged in day-to-day operations.
9. Collaborates with other researchers on long-range plans for project/program, acting as expert in specialized area.
10. Administers programs for visiting scholars, researchers and fellows.
11. Monitors expenditures of funds and grants.
12. May collaborate on new curricular offerings and course instruction.
13. Leads research and project committees.
14. Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Job Requirements: 

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Knowledge:
1. English Language — Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
2. Computers and Electronics — Knowledge of circuit boards, processors, chips, electronic equipment, and computer hardware and software, including applications and programming.
3. Administrative — Knowledge of administrative and office procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, stenography and transcription, designing forms, and workplace terminology.
4. Mathematics — Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications.
5. Customer and Personal Service — Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.

1. Reading Comprehension — Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work-related documents.
2. Active Listening — Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.

1. Near Vision - Must be able to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
2. Speech Clarity - Must be able to speak clearly so others can understand you.

4. May be exposed to short, intermittent, and/or prolonged periods of sitting and/or standing in performance of job duties.
5. May be required to accomplish job duties using various types of equipment/supplies, to include but not limited to pens, pencils, and computer keyboards.

Required Certifications/Licensures: 

Required Education: Terminal Degree

Major (if required: 

Required Experience: Ten (10) years or more of experience in a related field.

Preferred Qualifications: 

Achieved national recognition in the field as evidenced by publications in quality journals and presentations at national and international meetings.
