Primary Purpose:

The Simulation Lab Operations Specialist Specialist supports the daily operations of the simulation lab of assigned college (s) by coordinating the preparation, setup, maintenance, and functionality of simulation equipment and learning spaces. This position ensures that simulation environments are operational and ready for faculty-led instruction and training.

Essential Job Functions: 

1. Coordinates the daily operational readiness of simulation laboratories and associated learning spaces, ensuring technology and equipment are prepared, functional, and compliant.

2. Manages simulator programming, calibration, troubleshooting, and technical execution during simulation events.

3. Performs routine operational checks to ensure simulation equipment and technology are functioning properly.

4. Coordinates basic troubleshooting and facilitates service requests or repairs with vendors or internal support teams when necessary.

5. Completes set up and break down simulation equipment, mannequins, task trainers, and related materials for scheduled educational activities.

6. Maintains oversight of the simulation equipment lifecycle, including coordinating preventive maintenance, facilitating repairs, and maintaining accurate asset records and documentation.

7. Oversees simulation inventory systems, monitors supply usage, and tracks clinical consumables to ensure adequate availability for simulation activities.

8. Monitors equipment usage and report operational issues, supply needs, or maintenance requirements.

9. Coordinates simulation scheduling workflows in collaboration with academic programs to support efficient and standardized lab operations.

10. Documents operational procedures and assists in maintaining standard operating protocols for simulation lab activities.

11. Enters and maintains simulation activity data and equipment records in institutional systems; conducts data tracking and documentation activities required to maintain compliance with accreditation standards (e.g., CCNE, AAMC, SSH).

12. Ensures compliance with established safety protocols and supports operational risk mitigation within simulation environments.

13. Assists with the implementation and coordination of simulation-related technologies, including capture systems, immersive platforms, and enterprise simulation tools.

14. Maintains accurate records related to simulation utilization, equipment status, and operational metrics.

15. Provides operational and technical support to faculty during simulation sessions.

16. Supports institutional simulation initiatives aligned with the centralized governance strategy.

17. Supports special events, training sessions, and simulation-related activities as needed.

18. Collaborates with NSU Simulation leadership to develop and implement standardized operational procedures across all campuses.

19. Completes special projects as assigned.

20. Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Job Requirements: Participates in professional development activities related to simulation operations and technology management.

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Knowledge:
1. Working knowledge of healthcare simulation operations, systems and equipment.
2. Working knowledge of equipment lifecycle management principles.
3. Proficient knowledge of operational risk and safety compliance standards.
4. General knowledge of MS Access and/or other database reporting tools.
5. Clerical - General knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, designing forms, and other office procedures and terminology.
6. Customer and Personal Service - Proficient knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services.

Skills:
1. Basic skills in troubleshooting and repairing simulation equipment.
2. Complex Problem Solving – Proficient skills in identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.

Physical Requirements and Working Environment:
1. Speech Recognition - Must be able to identify and understand the speech of another person.

3. Near Vision - Must be able to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
4. Travel - Must be able to travel on a daily and/or overnight basis.
5. May be required to work nights or weekends.
6. May be exposed to short, intermittent, and/or prolonged periods of sitting and/or standing in performance of job duties.
7. Must be able to stand for extended periods during laboratory operations.
8. May be required to accomplish job duties using various types of equipment/supplies, to include but not limited to pens, pencils, and computer keyboards.
9. Must be able to lift and move simulation equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.

Required Certifications/Licensures: 

Required Education: Bachelor's degree

Major (if required: 

Required Experience: Minimum two (2) to four (4) years of experience working with simulation-based learning environment.

Preferred Qualifications: 

1. Bachelor’s degree in a healthcare related field.
2. CHSOS (Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist).
3. Active RN or ARNP licenses.
4. Experience working in a simulation laboratory, clinical training environment, or higher education/academic setting.
5. Experience working with high-fidelity simulation systems.
6. Experience with simulation capture systems and immersive technologies.
7. Familiarity with SSH standards and accreditation processes.
