Primary Purpose:

Contributes to assigned unit's financial success by examining budget estimates for completeness, accuracy, and conformance with procedures and regulations. Analyzes budgeting and account reports. Reviews and assists Principal Investigators (PI), faculty and researchers with grant operating budgets and makes recommendations for budget allocations to ensure conformance to budgetary limits.

Essential Job Functions: 

1. Performs accounting functions related to grants and contracts, including assisting in the development of budgets, approving expenditures, preparing invoices, and ensuring all accounting activity complies with the sponsor's policies and procedures.
2. Serves as Effort Coordinator for the college and assist PIs when processing effort cards. Assist PIs with reconciling payroll percentages with Human Resources data.
3. Prepares, examines, or analyzes accounting records, or other financial reports to assess accuracy, completeness, and conformance to reporting and procedural standards.
4. Develops, maintains, and analyzes budgets, preparing periodic reports that compare budgeted revenues and expenses to actuals.
5. Analyzes business operations, trends, costs, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations to project future revenues and expenses or to provide advice.
6. Interprets budget directives and ensures compliance.
7. Classifies, records, and summarizes numerical and financial data to compile and keep financial records, using journals and ledgers or computers.
8. Reviews purchase orders, check requests, expense reports, journal entries, and/or budget transfers for accuracy, and approves or denies.
9. Compiles budget data and documents, based on estimated revenues and expenses and previous budgets.
10. Reviews operating budgets to analyze trends affecting budget needs, and takes corrective action when needed.
11. Analyzes monthly department budgeting and accounting reports to maintain expenditure controls.
12. Compiles and analyzes accounting records and other data to determine the financial resources required to implement a program.
13. Provides advice and/or technical assistance with cost analysis, fiscal allocation, and budget preparation.
14. Examines budget estimates for completeness, accuracy, and conformance with procedures and regulations.
15. Summarizes budgets and submits recommendations for the approval or disapproval of funds requests.
16. Directs the preparation of regular and special budget reports.
17. Seeks new ways to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and increase profits.
18. Completes special projects as assigned.
19. Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Required Education: Bachelor’s degree

Major (if required: 

Required Experience: Four (4) to six (6) years of accounting related experience.
