Essential Job Functions: 1. Evaluates the current collection to identify gaps and strengths.
2. Determines the specific needs and preferences of the library's users through surveys, feedback, and data analysis.
3. Chooses appropriate materials, such as books, e-books, journals, DVDs, and digital resources.
4. Considers factors like relevance, quality, authority, and budget constraints in the selection process.
5. Assesses the collection periodically to remove outdated, damaged, or less-used items.
6. Develops criteria and guidelines for deaccessioning materials.
7. Manages the collection development budget, making cost-effective decisions to maximize the collection's quality and diversity.
8. Collaborates with vendors, publishers, and consortiums to negotiate pricing, discounts, and licensing agreements.
9. Establishes and maintain relationships with vendors and suppliers.
10. Acts as liaison with university legal counsel and vendors in negotiating contracts for leased, purchased, and subscription electronic and physical products.
11. Develops and revise collection development policies and guidelines, which outline the library's materials acquisition and management strategies.
12. Promotes the library's collection through displays, presentations, and marketing efforts.
13. Collaborates with other library staff to create programming and events that showcase the collection.
14. Responsible for outreach activities to and liaising with faculty to promote library services, strategize resource integration into course curriculum, and develop collections to support new colleges/courses.
15. Provides leadership and training regarding collection development to librarians working with faculty, alumni, and county users.
16. Oversees the acquisition, licensing, and maintenance of electronic resources, including databases and digital subscriptions.
17. Continuously monitors the collection's usage and relevance, making data-driven decisions for improvement.
18. Solicits feedback from patrons and staff to make informed collection development choices.
19. Manages, supervises, evaluates, and performs other personnel actions for assigned staff members.
20. Provides leadership for collection development meetings.
21. Manages gifts for collections appropriate to the curriculum, research, and leisure needs for NSU and Broward County community.
22. Manages used book sales.
23. Performs other duties as assigned.
Marginal Job Functions: 1. Prepares special reports and surveys.
2. May be expected to assume responsibility for supervision of library support staff, volunteers, and/or student employees.
Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: 1. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of library principles, practices, and techniques.
2. Deep understanding of library collection management principles and practices, as well as knowledge of various subject areas, is essential.
3. Demonstrated skills in using current technologies, including online searching.
4. Demonstrated ability to express ideas effectively, both orally and in writing.
5. Demonstrated organization and problem-solving skills.
6. The ability to work both independently without direct supervision as well as in a team environment.
7. Considerable knowledge of general community needs and interests in relation to library services in the areas of specialization.
8. Demonstrated knowledge of resources and delivery of services.
9. Showing potential leadership ability by successful participation in small teams, committees, or projects.
10. Evidence of creative contributions and accomplishments to the department and to the NSU Libraries.
11. Evidence of cross-departmental collaboration.
12. Evidence of professional and educational development through ongoing continuing education leading to a specialization in a work-related field.
13. Evidence of professional growth, including participation and contributions to the profession. This can include service on library committees; service for professional organizations at a local, regional, or national level; presentations given on and off campus; published articles and research.
14. Continued professional and educational development through ongoing continuing education that will assist in maintaining status as an expert in a specialization of work-related field. Stay abreast of current development and trends in developing library collections.
15. The ability to analyze data, assess the collection’s performance, and make data-driven decisions.



Job Requirements:  
Required Certifications/Licensures:  
Required Education: Master's Degree
Major (if required): Masters of Library Science degree from an ALA accredited school
Required Experience: 1. Minimum of two (2) years' experience as professional librarian, including one (1) year of experience in collection development.
2. Experience managing a collection development budget efficiently, including allocating funds for different subject areas.
3. Experience conducting regular assessments and evaluations of the library's collection to ensure its relevance and currency.
4. Experience reporting statistical data and analyzing data, assess the collection’s performance, and make data-driven decisions.
Preferred Qualifications: 1. Experience working with faculty and/or community partners to develop collections.
2. Experience working and negotiating with vendors on pricing, discount, and licensing agreement.
3. Supervisory experience, preferably in an academic and/or public library.
4. Experience in collection development in both academic and public library.
