Essential Job Functions: 1. Assists supervisor in managing the day to day operations of the Optical Service including student and staff activities, inventory control, and customer service.

2. Provides work direction to assigned staff by overseeing activities workflow, productivity, quality of service and attendance. Provides input on hiring, disciplining and evaluating performance.

3. Troubleshoots and resolves customer service issues and escalates patients' complains when necessary.

4. Teaches optical dispensary techniques and functions to optometry students.

5. Provides expertise in the areas of selling, fitting, dispensing and repairing spectacle frames.

6. Evaluates inventory and lens products; orders frames and lenses on to ensure completion of patient orders.

7. Maintains accurate patient records; maintains inventory records to track and reduce shrinkage.

8. Generates reports pertaining to inventory and cost of goods sold.

9. Provides oversight for completing third party forms when ordering eyewear and charging appropriate contracted fees.

10. Develops and implement plans to complete fabrication and provide quality eyewear in a timely fashion.

11. Merchandises Optical dispensary so that spectacles are displayed effectively for optimum sales.

12. Maintains records of dismantled eyewear according to established policies.

13. Completes necessary paperwork for patients' adjustments and refunds.

14. Orders frames and supplies in coordination with the Optometric Merchandiser/Buyer.

15. In conjunction with The Eye Institute administrators, develop and implement plans to reduce shrinkage.

16. Travels to and works at other Eye Care Institute sites as necessary.

17. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Marginal Job Functions: Performs edging and spectacle construction, as necessary.
Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Must have demonstrated knowledge of optical dispensary techniques and operation, including selection, fabrication and repair of eyeglasses.
Job Requirements:  
Required Certifications/Licensures: Must hold active state of Florida Optician's license.
Required Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent
Major (if required):  
Required Experience: High School Diploma and minimum five (5) years' experience as a practicing optician.

--OR--

Associates Degree or 60 completed credit hours and minimum three (3) years' experience as a practicing optician.
Preferred Qualifications: Bilingual in Spanish or Creole.
