Essential Job Functions: | 1. Conducts research in area of expertise, writing results for inclusion in broader research project. Designs and applies scientific and numerical models in research. Oversees development of data collection and instruments. Monitors integrity of data collection and use of protocols and procedures. 2. Designs instrumentation, theoretical models, equipment, or other vehicles for data gathering and analysis. 3. Contributes to basic and applied research activities; design experimental plan, collects, analyzes, and processes laboratory samples or research data; performs a variety of tests, using routine and/or special techniques and methods. 4. Collaborates with other researchers on long-range plans for project/program, acting as expert in specialized area. 5. Reviews and critiques report and analysis of other researchers and conducts ongoing, periodic and final analyses of data, using specialized techniques and programming. 6. Reports the results, status of project, and plans to senior investigator on a weekly basis. 7. Analyzes experimental data and interprets results to write reports and summaries of findings, monitor integrity of data collection. 8. Develops research methods, procedures, and techniques based on established objectives; responsible for trouble shooting and redesigning the protocols, to maintain the scientific rigor in conducting the research. 9. Investigates, modifies and applies new techniques theoretical models and device, in performing cutting-edge research. 10. Writes and collaborates with other researchers on manuscripts, abstracts, grant proposals and other publications of research findings. May present results of study at professional academic science meetings and other forums. 11. Mentor and oversee researchers, students and staff engaged in day-to-day research operations. 12. May administer programs for visiting scholars, researchers, and fellows. 13. May lead research and project committees. 14. Performs other duties as assigned or required. |

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: | Knowledge: 1. Required knowledge include oral and craniofacial anatomy, cell and molecular biology, immunology, biochemistry and microbiology. 2. Proficient in scientific speaking and writing, timely communication and collaboration with team members for both in vitro and in vivo studies. 3. A desire for learning state of the art new technologies, and critical and innovative thinking are strongly encouraged. 4. Preferred lab skills obtained or to be developed included but not limited to, Cell culture, Flow cytometry, micro-CT, In vivo imaging, PCR, ELISA, Western blot, Immunohistochemistry. 5. Ability to handle small lab animals (mice, rats) is a plus. 6. Fundamental biomedical research –well versed in biomedical research as an independent researcher. 7. Biology - Working knowledge of animal organisms, their tissues, cells, functions, interdependencies, and interactions with each other and the environment. 8. Biochemistry – Working knowledge of the chemical composition available in organisms, such as ATP and DNA, structure, and properties of substances and of the chemical processes and transformations that they undergo. This includes uses of chemicals and interactions, danger signs, production techniques, and disposal methods. 9. Publication- understands all policies (COI, copy right, etc.) associated with publication; - be aware the relevance of publications of results which is the most relevant measurable products generated by research scientists; experienced in publishing academic papers. 10. English Language – General knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar. Skilled in writing academic research articles. 11. Mathematics - General knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, and/or statistics, and their applications. Skills: 1. Science - Basic skills using scientific rules and methods to solve problems. 2. Critical Thinking - Basic skills in using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems. 3. Reading Comprehension - Basic understanding of written sentences and paragraphs in work-related documents. 4. Active Listening - Basic skills in giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times. 5.
