Essential Job Functions: 1. Performs human cadaveric dissections to include regions as directed by faculty and
course requirements.
2. Presents background material and assists students to identify anatomical structures.
3. Trains and coaches Anatomy Lab Technicians/Assistants to perform anatomical
dissections and provide laboratory presentations.
4. Assists with the assignment of laboratory stations to staff.
5. Plans the execution of laboratory teaching sessions by assisting in the selection of
specimens and assigning lab stations, set up and clean up duties to Anatomy Lab
Technicians/Assistants.
6. Plans, coordinates and executes independent study sessions for students outside of
scheduled lab sessions to ensure that students have adequate access to specimens.
7. Sets up the laboratory for courses and exams under the direction of faculty.
8. Proctors’ anatomy course exams.
9. Provides and maintains anatomical bones and models
10. Maintains equipment and instruments in a clean, organized and safe condition in the
labs and common areas.
11. Performs daily inspections of cadaveric specimens in the attempt to control mold,
excessive drying and/or other detrimental environmental conditions. Follows up on
any concerns with faculty to determine the best action(s) to take.
12. Performs general maintenance of gross dissection laboratory cadavers, skeletons,
specimens and equipment.
13. Performs other duties as assigned.
Marginal Job Functions: 1. Prepares study materials/aids for students according to course requirements.
2. Meets with faculty to plan laboratory sessions and exams.
3. Ensures all lab users have completed the required documentation to enter the lab.
4. Secures the facility and exam materials.
Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: 1. Demonstrated knowledge of human anatomy and dissection procedures to
assist with the dissection and instruction of gross anatomy.
2. Working knowledge of gross anatomy and histology laboratory processes,
equipment and facilities.
3. Knowledge of laboratory practices and procedures, willing to review anatomy
materials, be able to follow written/oral instructions and have appreciable hand eye
coordination.
4. Safely operate and utilize dissection instruments, including sharp objects such as
scalpels and power tools.
5. Ability to work effectively with faculty and students in planning and coordinating labs.
6. Must have good personal communication skills and the ability to work
independently and as part of a team without direct supervision.
7. Must be self-directed and take initiative, be organized, be able to manage multiple
priorities to meet deadline requirements.
8. Maintains a positive, professional relationship with course directors, anatomy
teaching faculty, and lab staff.
9. Ability to work cooperatively with colleagues and supervisory staff at all levels.
10. Ability to maintain confidential information.
11. Strong interpersonal and excellent verbal and written communication skills, with
attention to detail.
Job Requirements: 1. Must be self-motivated, proactive, punctual, and reliable.
2. May be exposed to short, intermittent, and/or prolonged periods of sitting and/or
standing in performance of job duties; ability to perform acute repetitive motions
during shift.
3. May be required to accomplish job duties using various types of
equipment/supplies; manual dexterity with dissection instruments and power
tools; must be able to use sharp scalpels, dissection instruments, and operate
hand/electric saws. Must be willing to safely operate and utilize dissection
instruments, sharp objects such as scalpels and power tools.
4. Open-toed shoes, exposed ankles/feet/legs, food and drinks are not permitted.
5. Personal protective equipment (PPE) will be provided by NSU and must be worn; this
includes eye protection, gowns, gloves, and masks whenever dissecting.
6. Additional personal protective equipment (PPE) may be worn.
7. May occasionally be required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch,
or crawl.
8. Individually able to lift 50 pounds and team-lift bodies weighing up to 300 pounds.
9. Exposed to certain chemical related substances to care and maintain used in cadavers
and lab equipment, the Human Anatomy Cadaver laboratory may contain trace
formaldehyde (formalin), phenol, bleach (50/50), Carosafe, Ward-Safe and other
chemical or cleaning solutions typically found in the environment of an anatomy lab.
Required Certifications/Licensures: Resume and cover letter required for full consideration
Required Education: Master's Degree in Anatomy, Biological Sciences, or related discipline
Major (if required):  
Required Experience: Previous experience performing human tissue dissections.
Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in Human Anatomy
