Essential Job Functions: | The first priority of all members of the Law Library team is to serve the Panza Maurer Law Library and the Shepard Broad College of Law's faculty, students, and patrons. Each team member will not be limited by this job description in an effort to assist our constituency, but will perform tasks assigned by supervisor(s). Team members will be readily available, visible, and accessible to faculty, students and patrons, and if unable to answer an inquiry, they will ensure assistance is provided by another member of the Panza Maurer Law Library team. The Panza Maurer Law Library team seeks to exceed expectations as an essential support for students and faculty and to provide an outstanding level of value-added service to the Shepard Broad College of Law. 1. Provides legal research, reference assistance and instruction both in-person and virtually. 2. Provides collection services for all legal materials primarily by serving on the Collection Development Committee. 3. Learns and stays current with best practices in legal research methods, strategies, teaching, and learning theories and follows law practice trends and technology developments. 4. Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills and leadership qualities, including the ability to effectively communicate with students to help them achieve their educational goals. 5. Takes an active role in promoting library resources and services to students and faculty in support of the mission of the College of Law. 6. Promotes student engagement with the library by providing classroom guest lectures upon request, participating in orientation, working with co-curricular organizations, and conducting workshops and research instruction on legal research topics. 7. Instructs and supports students and faculty in the use of Westlaw, Lexis, learning management systems and other electronic resources. 8. Leverages innovative and emerging technologies for library and law school use, assisting law faculty with using these tools to enhance classroom and experiential learning or the scholarly communications experience. 9. Develops instructional modules in a variety of formats, including creating and maintaining assigned research guides and tutorials in the law library’s online collection. 10. Participates in the Law Library Faculty Liaison Program, assisting with their research, teaching and scholarship projects. 11. Serves on local, regional, and national law library related organizations and committees. 12. Performs other duties as assigned or required. |
Marginal Job Functions: | 1. Opportunity to teach Advanced Legal Research Techniques, an upper-level course in the College of Law. 2. Participates in password creation, management, maintenance and assistance for Bloomberg, Lexis, Westlaw and other law library databases. 3. Assists the Institutional Repository Librarian with maintaining the institutional repository, including liaising with College of Law staff and faculty to keep the repository up to date. 4. Assists the Associate Director for Operations & Collections with vendor relations. 5. Prepares statistical and other reports as assigned. |
Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: | 1. Ability to work weekend and evening hours and some holidays is required. 2. Demonstrated experience with technology tools, social networking sites, and law library software and databases. 3. Facility with Westlaw, Lexis, other research databases, HTML, CSS, RSS, and AV editing software. 4. Advanced knowledge of MS Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook; database and data entry skills. 5. Decision-making, problem solving and analytical skills. 6. Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of duties and responsibilities. 7. Excellent organization, planning and customer services skills. 8. Excellent written and oral communication skills. 9. Ability to work cooperatively with colleagues and supervisory staff at all levels. 10. May be exposed to short, intermittent, and/or prolonged periods of sitting and/or standing in performance of job duties. 11. May be required to accomplish job duties using various types of equipment/supplies, to include but not limited to pens, pencils and computer keyboards. |

Required Experience: | 1. Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from an ABA Accredited Law School. 2. Master of Library Science (M.L.S.)/ Master of Library and Information Science (M.L.I.S.) degree from an ALA Accredited Library School (preferred); OR current enrollment in a M.L.S./M.L.I.S. program and completion within two (2) years of date of hire; OR successful application to and enrollment in a M.L.S./M.L.I.S. program within six (6) months of date of hire AND completion of said program within two (2) years of enrollment. 3. One (1) to two (2) years of related law library or legal research experience, or relevant coursework. |
