Primary Purpose:
Works collaboratively with both the Director of Reference & User Services and the Assistant Director of Public & Community Services in a leadership capacity to plan, organize, coordinate, schedule, and assess academic user-focused reference and user services. Serves as part of the leadership team of the Reference & User Services department, which provides public and academic user-focused services of the joint-use Alvin Sherman Library, Research, and Information Technology Center, and includes reference and research services, student engagement, faculty liaison support, public outreach, adult services, youth services, information literacy, programming, and learning/instructional resources and services. Manages and supervises librarians and support staff.

Essential Job Functions:
1. Plans, directs, supervises, and coordinates work activities of subordinates and staff, including hiring, coaching, evaluating, and terminating, all in accordance with University policies and procedures.
2. Fosters a collaborative team environment that encourages exploration and innovation to provide NSU faculty, researchers, staff, students, and Broward County users with professional reference, research, information literacy, engagement, outreach, learning, and instructional services.
3. Recruits, hires, manages, evaluates, and supervises staff, that could comprise of librarians, support staff, and student employees.
4. Plans, develops, coordinates, and provides general and specialized training for staff on their team.
5. Serves as the acting Director of Reference & User Services in the absence of the Director, along with the Assistant Director of Public & Community Services.
6. Works in collaboration with the Assistant Director of Public & Community Services on the development, implementation, assessment, and promotion of innovative programs and user-focused services that support our diverse patron community.
7. Oversees a team of librarians who support the academic user-focused services that include reference and research support, information literacy, engagement, in-reach/outreach, collection development, student success, and instructional services.
8. Works with team to integrate library instruction into the curriculum of the academic programs and facilitate embedded librarianship.
9. Directs librarian liaison support and collection development tasks related to the NSU colleges and departments supported by the Alvin Sherman Library, departmental goals, and liaison area assignments of librarians within the department.
10. Develops and maintains the reference desk and instructional schedule calendars and staff calendar.
11. Ensures that library documentation, videos, and guides are developed, updated, and maintained.
12. Ensures that process documentation and training materials are documented and updated for the department.
13. Sets standards of performance and/or scholarship which other librarians and staff should emulate.
14. Works at the reference desk(s) and provides library instruction and information literacy sessions as needed.
15. Completes other projects as assigned.
16. Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Required Certifications/Licensures:
Required Education: Master's Degree
Major (if required: ALA accredited master’s degree in library science.
Required Experience: 1. Minimum five (5) years of relevant post MLS experience in public services in an academic or joint-use library.
2. Minimum two (2) years of experience leading and/or managing teams or supervisory experience.
3. Experience working with students and faculty.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Experience working in both public and academic library departments or libraries.
2. Evidence of developing and implementing innovative programs and services.
3. Experience collecting data and providing complex reports to key stakeholders.
4. Demonstrated professional growth, including participation and contributions to the profession to include actively participating in leadership roles in professional organizations at a local, regional, national, or international level; presentations given at regional and national conferences and programs; published articles and research in peer reviewed or scholarly publications.
