Primary Purpose:

Contributes to the advancement of knowledge and the pursuit of academic excellence through the performance of library-related services, while providing leadership, planning, developing, and managing research, reference and instructional services to users of the Martin & Gail Press Health Professions Division (HPD) Library.

Essential Job Functions: 

1. Plans, directs, supervises, and coordinates work activities of subordinates and staff, including hiring, coaching, evaluating, and terminating.

2. Evaluates vendor products and performance, negotiates contracts, and places orders.

3. Responds to customer complaints, taking action as necessary.

4. Plans and/or delivers client-centered programs/events and services for library patrons such as newsletters, documentation, and promotional materials.

5. Analyzes patrons' requests to determine needed information and assists in furnishing or locating that information.

6. Serves as trainer and mentor for junior employees.

7. Provides professional reference and instructional services to users/patrons and promotes library services.

8. Provides reports and information for licensure and accreditation purposes and participates in accreditation meetings.

9. Assesses reference and instructional services on a regular basis, collects statistics, and provides regular reports.

10. Directs liaison and collection development tasks related to the goals for librarians.

11. Completes special projects as assigned.

12. Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Job Requirements: 

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Knowledge:
1. English Language - Thorough knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
2. Customer and Personal Service - Thorough knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of user satisfaction.
3. Computers and Electronics - General knowledge of computer hardware and software, including applications, programming, and/or systems configuration.
4. Education and Training - Thorough knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects.
5. Clerical - General knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, designing forms, and other office procedures and terminology.
6. Administration and Management - Working knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, budgeting, human resources modeling, leadership technique, and/or coordination of people and resources.
7. Communications and Media - General knowledge of media production, visual, verbal, and interactive communication, and dissemination techniques and methods. This includes alternative ways to inform and persuade via written, oral, and visual media.

1. Reading Comprehension - Advanced understanding of written sentences and paragraphs in work-related documents.

Physical Requirements:
1. Near Vision - Must be able to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
2. Speech Recognition - Must be able to identify and understand the speech of another person.
3. Travel - Must be able to travel on a daily and/or overnight basis.
4. May be required to work nights or weekends.
5. May be exposed to short, intermittent, and/or prolonged periods of sitting and/or standing in performance of job duties.
6. May be required to accomplish job duties using various types of equipment/supplies, to include but not limited to pens, pencils, and computer keyboards.
7. Able to lift up to 20 pounds and place books in high and low shelves.

Required Certifications/Licensures: 

Required Education: Master's Degree

Major (if required: 

Required Experience: 1. Minimum seven (7) of post MLS experience services in an academic environment and two (2) in a leadership role.

2. Master's Degree in Library Science from an ALA Accredited school.

3. Experience with instruction to graduate and undergraduate students.

4. Experience collecting data and in providing complex reports to library administration.

5. Experience with distance and online students.

Preferred Qualifications: 

1. Experience with accreditation.

2. Experience with exhibits and programming.
