Primary Purpose:

Oversees and manages university academic and recreational Scuba Diving programs as well as the outdoor recreation program.

Essential Job Functions: 

1. Plans, directs, supervises, and coordinates work activities of subordinates and staff, including hiring, coaching, evaluating, and terminating; oversees the development and execution of goals.

2. Supervises and oversees academic and recreational scuba diving instruction and development program while serving as the director for the university student dive club.

3. Teaches within the academic and recreational scuba diving program; teaches for-credit scuba labs within the Halmos College.

4. Oversees and delivers scuba diving and outdoor recreation related staff training and development programs in accordance with national standards and industry best practices.

5. Serves as professional staff “on-call” during weekends and overnight scuba diving and outdoor recreations trips.

6. Oversees outdoor recreation and education programs and services to include day and overnight trips, equipment rentals and “how-to” programs.

7. Leads and organizes strategic new student recruitment tours targeted towards potential in-coming Marine Biology majors.

8. Develops and monitors the annual Scuba and Outdoor Recreation budget.

9. Works collaboratively with the research dive program to assist the development of dive operation standards, policies, procedures, and best practices.

10. Completes special projects as assigned.

10. Performs other relevant duties as assigned or required.

Physical Requirements:
1. Speech Recognition - Must be able to identify and understand the speech of another person.
2. Speech Clarity - Must be able to speak clearly so others can understand you.
3. Near Vision - Must be able to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
4. May be required to work nights or weekends.
5. Travel - Must be able to travel on a daily and/or overnight basis.
6. May be exposed to short, intermittent, and/or prolonged periods of sitting and/or standing in performance of job duties.
7. May be required to accomplish job duties using various types of equipment/supplies, to include but not limited to pens, pencils, mobile devices, and computer keyboards.

Required Certifications/Licensures: 1. Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI).

2. Diver's Alert Network (DAN).

3. Certified Dive Master.

4. Association of Outdoor Recreation and Education Individual Membership.

5. CPR / First Aid / AED Certification.

Required Education: Bachelor's Degree

Major (if required: 

Required Experience: 1. Five (5) years teaching experience as a professional scuba diving instructor with a current dive master credential.

2. Experience in teaching dive instructor training.

3. Experience in leading and supervising outdoor recreation and education programs, trips, and services.

Preferred Qualifications: 

1. Master's degree.

2. Certified in Wilderness Medicine
