Primary Purpose:
Under general direction, this position utilizes independent judgment to interpret policies and procedures, answer complex questions and acts as a mentor to Communications Systems Operators. This position requires thorough knowledge of security and safety procedures and techniques to provide a crime prevention and life-safety presence on campus. Facilitates use of the campus through access control systems and monitoring control of NSU property. Investigates campus incidents and occurrences. Communicates and coordinates with the NSU community the crime prevention goals of the Public Safety Department through personal interaction and other measures.

Essential Job Functions:
Assists in the coaching of Communications Systems Operators (CSOs) on the following job tasks:
1. Dispatches NSU Public Safety Officers and NSU Davie Police Officers to incidents.
2. Detects and alerts the appropriate personnel to safety hazards.
3. Provides video patrol inspections and video investigations on campus.
4. Coordinates with local law enforcement concerning the investigation of incidents, crimes, and losses.
5. Coordinates placing buildings on fire tests.
6. Conducts emergency notifications and emergency response drills.
7. Reviews programming for access control for campus buildings.
9. Holds primary responsibility to conduct safety audits of life safety devices and equipment at all NSU campuses.
10. Performs access control and NSU ID card clearance programming and audits
11. Serves in the role of Acting Coordinator when no Coordinators are on duty.
12. Assists with process improvement and updating policies and procedures.
13. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Certifications/Licensures: 1. Have or obtain a valid Florida Driver’s License with no more than three points.
2. CPR/AED Certification is active/current.
3. FEMA Active Shooter Certificate of Achievement.
4. FEMA Effective Communication Certificate of Achievement.
Required Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent
Major (if required:
Required Experience: 1. Two (2) years of experience working in the Public Safety Security Operations Center (SOC).
2. No written disciplinary action (1 year).
3. Demonstrated ability to work well with coworkers and management.
4.Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot issues.
5. Demonstrated ability to coach SOC employees.
6. Has shown initiative by asking for and completing special projects.
7. Participated in the most recent PSD Emergency Notification Drill & Active Shooter Drill.
8. Most recent performance review shows an “Exceptional Contribution” rating for:
a. Task Goals and Accountabilities (three Exceptional Contribution ratings).
b. NSU Core Values (two Exceptional Contribution ratings)..
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Willing to work overtime as needed in order to cover staffing shortages.
2. Previous dispatch, public safety, security, or police experience.
3. Previous experience supervising employees.
4. Previous experience with Microsoft Office products.
