Primary Purpose:

To teach in the entry-level program, the transition DPT program, and the PhD PT program; to implement a scholarly agenda, and to provide service to the Department, the College, the University, the Professional Association, and the community at large, as indicated.

Appointment to the rank of professor requires a record of distinguished scholarship and outstanding teaching ability, evidenced by recognized professional productivity in the field(s) of specialization. Appointment to the rank of associate professor normally requires a record of substantial success in teaching, scholarship, and service. Appointment to the rank of assistant professor requires completion of professional training, which in most disciplines will be a terminal degree (usually the earned doctorate),and the clear promise of a successful career in teaching, scholarship, and service. Instructors are appointed to one-year appointments, and are subject to 90 days' notice of renewal or non-renewal. Instructors are not on a continuing contract track.

Essential Job Functions: 

1. Teaching undergraduate or graduate course(s) in the classroom as assigned.

2. Select teaching and evaluation strategies appropriate to the students and setting.

3. Present ideas clearly.

4. Create a climate that is conducive to learning.

5. Provide and maintain a reliable schedule of office hours for student advising, tutoring, remediation and consultation.

6. Participate in department and college-wide committees and meetings.

7. Engage in curriculum development related to current and new courses.

8. Maintain a personal professional development plan, which may include a record of scholarly activity such as research and/or other creative activities, to assure growth and currency within the academic field.

9. Display behavior consistent with professional ethics.

10. Maintains active membership within the American Physical Therapy Association.

Job Requirements: 

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: 1. Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with students, parents, and others on a regular basis.

2. Collaborate with peers to enhance the instructional environment.

3. Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals.

4. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.

5. Ability to effectively present information to student, public groups, or professional organization.

6. Ability to work with appropriate mathematical concepts specific to the particular discipline.

7. Ability to apply concepts to practical situations.

8. Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.

8. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.) Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables simultaneously.

Required Certifications/Licensures: 

Required Education: Doctoral Degree

Major (if required: 

Required Experience: 1. Doctoral degree in an appropriate area of specialization.

2. Minimum of five (5) years of related experience and/or training, including research; or clinical specialist certification, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications: 

1. Prior experience as an instructor in a distance education environment.

2. Operational knowledge of the Internet and web-related technologies.
