Primary Purpose:

The Research and Production Assistant support the research and production of a documentary film project under the Marine Environmental Education Center. The film will feature archival research findings and recorded interviews. The assistant will be needed at each stage of production to help research, document, and transcribe interviews.

This is a temporary position with no benefits.

Hiring Range:  $15.00

Essential Job Functions: 

1. Archival Research-The research and production assistant will help to collect documents, artifacts, and other items that may help to tell the story within the film. Experience with archival research is a plus.

2. Production Assistant-In collaboration with the director, the assistant will record notes of key points and keep track of interview questions. Additionally, the assistant will help to set up lights for interviews, move furniture around, etc. Some production experience is a plus, but there will be production training.

3. Editing and Transcribing Interviews-Once the interview phase is completed, the assistant will help with transcribing and organizing interviews for the first round of edits.

Job Requirements: 

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: 

Required Certifications/Licensures: 

Required Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent

Major (if required: Film studies, history or related

Required Experience: Currently enrolled in Higher education or a recent graduate.

Preferred Qualifications: 

1. Being passionate about the local and environmental history of South Florida and can convey their excitement through media production.
2. Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn about documentary film production
3. Experience with DSLR cameras
4. Experience with the Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects is a plus
5. Comfortable working around water, heavy equipment, and live animals.
6. Ability to lift up to 30–40 lbs and work both indoors and outdoors.
7. Able to comfortably go up and down stairs often
